Brie Larson did not play a secret second role in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, despite an online rumor that’s been making the rounds. Gossip Cop can correct the false speculation. There’s simply no truth to the theory.

Earlier this week, a rumor was posted on Reddit claiming Larson played two characters in the King Kong reboot. The post said that in addition to playing the lead female role in the film, Larson also played a native on the island, disguised underneath heavy face paint and makeup. The character appears midway through the film and confronts Larson’s character with a spear.

Speculation about the actress secretly playing the uncredited role in the movie spread across social media and a few news outlets, including the entertainment website We Got This Covered. The rumor picked up so much steam that the director of the film, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, finally tweeted “FALSE” with a link to the blog’s story. It doesn’t get much more definitive than the director of the movie issuing such a simple and strong denial.

It’s worth noting, this isn’t the first time the actress has been the subject of untrue tales related to her starring role in Kong: Skull Island. Back in 2016 Gossip Cop busted OK! for wrongly alleging that Larson was feuding with co-star Tom Hiddleston over his relationship with Taylor Swift.

In the time since we debunked that article, the tabloids have continued pushing a phony narrative about the Captain Marvel star getting into feuds with seemingly everyone she works with. Gossip Cop recently called out Star for inaccurately reporting Larson was fighting with Avengers: Endgame co-star Chris Hemsworth.

The same outlet even put her at war with the star of a superhero movie from another comic book universe. Last month, the magazine falsely contended Larson was feuding with Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, who she had supposedly acted rude towards following the success of Captain Marvel. That never happened. Meanwhile, OK! even went so far as to assert that all of Larson’s co-stars in the Avengers: Endgame “hated her,” which was immediately refuted on Twitter by co-star Don Cheadle.

Bogus tabloid stories about Larson aren’t confined to just her professional life. Gossip Cop recently busted NW for incorrectly claiming Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky, thought Larson was trying to “steal” her husband. That wasn’t true, nor was the same’s outlet story about fellow Marvel stars Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan competing to date Larson. As for Kong: Skull Island, the actress didn’t pull double duty when it came to her acting work.
