One of this week’s tabloids claims Bradley Cooper is losing friends because he’s become too “shallow.” Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story. There’s simply no truth to it.

“Shallow Bradley Losing His Buds,” reads a headline in the latest issue of Star. The accompanying article says the actor has become very “self-absorbed” following the success of A Star Is Born, which he produced, co-wrote, directed and starred in. An alleged insider tells the magazine that Jennifer Garner, Christian Bale and Vince Vaughn are among the stars who’ve “turned their backs” on Cooper.

“A lot of his longtime supporters have just up and vanished, and he counted on them being a lot more vocal about the movie,” says the magazine’s supposed source, who goes on to say that many of Cooper’s pals are tired of his “inflated ego.” The suspicious tipster further contends that many in the actor’s inner circle have become “sick of their superficial friend.”

This bogus story seems to have been written so Star could have fun with some wordplay. “Shallow,” of course, is the name of Cooper and Lady Gaga’s Oscar-winning song from A Star Is Born. To say the actor has also become “shallow” in real life seems a bit too convenient to be true. It simply isn’t.

For starters, Cooper had dinner at Garner’s house earlier this month. The unreliable tabloid singles out the actress as one of the celebrities who want nothing to do with Cooper, but that’s provably untrue. Meanwhile, Cooper was spotted grabbing lunch with Freddie Prinze Jr. in Los Angeles last week. Also last week, Cooper joined his Hangover co-stars and several other celebrities at The Comedy Store in LA to pay tribute to their late friend, comedian Brody Stevens, who took his life last month.

In addition to all of the evidence indicating that Cooper still has plenty of friends, Gossip Cop is also told by a source close to the actor that the tabloid’s story is baseless. In fact, the article isn’t particularly original. Last week, we busted Star’s sister publication, OK!, for coming up with a similar report about Cooper’s ego being out of control. In that version of the story, however, the actor was the one “shunning” his Hollywood friends.

When this narrative about the actor becoming full of himself first emerged last week, a Cooper confidante assured us, “Nothing has changed with him. If you ask any of his friends they would say the same.” That remains the case. This latest take on the subject is equally bogus.
