Bradley Cooper will star opposite Cate Blanchett in the upcoming movie Nightmare Alley, it was reported earlier this week. However, Gossip Cop recently debunked a story claiming Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lawrence were fighting to play the female lead. Blanchett's casting proves our previous bust was correct.
Back in June, Gossip Cop busted the Globe for wrongly reporting that Gaga and Lawrence were competing to co-star with Cooper in in Guillermo del Toro's remake of the 1947 film Nightmare Alley. The movie centers on a conman who teams up with a female psychiatrist to fleece people out of money through a mentalist act, until she turns the tables on him.
According to the outlet, Gaga and Lawrence were the top two choices for the female lead and were actively campaigning to score the part. The bogus story was concocted simply because both the singer and the actress have history with Cooper on the big screen. Gaga co-starred with the actor in last year's remake of A Star Is Born, while Lawrence has starred alongside him in multiple movies, including Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Serena and Joy.
At the time the article was published, Gossip Cop checked in with an individual in Cooper's camp, who told us there was "zero truth to anything out there at this stage" regarding casting for Nightmare Alley. As for the idea that Gaga and Lawrence were fighting over the co-starring role, our reliable source told us the premise was "insane."
Just a few days ago, almost all of the major Hollywood trade publications reported that Blanchett was in negotiations to star with Cooper in Nightmare Alley. Gossip Cop actually made a point of noting back in June that none of the Hollywood trades had reported any news about who would play the female lead in the film. As we also stressed at the time, tabloids aren't known to get casting scoops. Now that Blanchett is joining the film, that's become even more evident.
It should be noted, the gossip media has a habit of creating fake drama between Cooper and his two former co-stars. Gossip Cop previously called out OK! for falsely claiming Lawrence was jealous of Gaga sparking a close friendship with the actor on the set of A Star Is Born.
Shortly before that, Gossip Cop debunked an In Touch article claiming Lawrence was angry at Cooper for casting Gaga in A Star Is Born instead of her. Now that Cooper will be teaming up with Blanchett, we suspect there will be plenty of fiction written about the actor and his future co-star.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
