Did Bradley Cooper dump Irina Shayk for Lady Gaga? That’s what one tabloid claimed exactly one year ago. Gossip Cop debunked the story when it was first published, and it’s clearer than ever that the story was false.

On February 26, 2019, Woman’s Day published a bogus article alleging that Cooper was leaving his then-partner Shayk for his A Star is Born co-star. The tabloid also claimed that Gaga had ended her own engagement to Christian Carino for the same reason. “If I know Gaga, she’ll have confessed her true feelings to Bradley by now,” said a “source” supposedly close to the situation. The likely nonexistent tipster added that Cooper asked Gaga to “hide her true feelings” for the rest of awards season to spare Shayk any embarrassment.

This story was part of a continuous deluge of phony rumors about Cooper and Gaga that have been churned out by the tabloid industry ever since they co-starred together in A Star Is Born. Gossip Cop debunked it, like all of the others. At the time, Shayk and Cooper showed tons of PDA throughout awards season, and Shayk gave Gaga a hug after her Oscar win for Best Original Song. The story was entirely fabricated.

One year later, has anything changed? Well, yes and no, but mostly no. Yes, Cooper and Shayk did end their relationship in June of last year, and no, of course it was not because of Gaga. The ex-partners have always kept their personal lives private, both pre- and post-breakup, but in an interview with British Vogue last month, Shayk alluded to the fact that sometimes these things just don’t work out. “In all good relationships you bring your best and your worst,” she said. “Two great people don’t have to make a good couple.”

And, of course, there’s the Lady Gaga of it all. While the tabloids kept up a constant stream of Cooper/Gaga rumors throughout the year, the singer herself shut down every one of them in an interview with Oprah Winfrey for Elle in November. “The press is very silly,” she said of the rumors. “We made a love story. Of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love.” Speaking about their romantic Oscars performance of their hit song “Shallow,” Gaga said, “We mapped the whole thing out – it was orchestrated as a performance.”

Even after Gaga shut down the rumors – a good year and a half after A Star Is Born was released – the phony stories have continued. In January, we made a list of just a few of our favorite bogus reports about Gaga and Cooper’s alleged romance that Gossip Cop has debunked. More recently, after the news broke that Gaga was dating businessman Michael Polansky, the National Enquirer claimed Gaga had “moved on” from Cooper with her new guy. This one, obviously, was false as well. One would think we’d be done debunked these ridiculous stories by now, but they just won’t go away.
