It’s still only November, but a certain webloid is already fixating on Christmas and how it will be spent by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. To capitalize on interest surrounding the former couple, a site is peddling made-up holiday stories, even if it means exploiting their young children in the process. Gossip Cop can explain what’s going on.

Two weeks ago, HollywoodLife manufactured an article claiming Pitt and Jolie were “fighting” over holiday plans. That was followed just days ago by a concocted story about the Jolie-Pitt kids hoping to “spend Christmas together as a family.” But before, after and during this time, Gossip Cop has been assured that no one on either side is leaking information as it relates to the children. That’s important to keep in mind when examining the new report published on Saturday, which is headlined, “Brad Pitt Missing His Kids: Worries Angelina Jolie Will Take Them Overseas For Xmas.”

In the story, which was bizarrely authored by the outlet’s “sports editor,” the online publication claims it “EXCLUSIVELY learned Brad Pitt fears Angelina Jolie will take their kids on a trip for the holiday, leaving him to spend Christmas alone!” The blog predicts the actor could be “headed for a ‘Blue Christmas'” if Jolie is “particularly Grinchy when Christmas rolls around.” A so-called “colleague of the Fury star” is quoted as saying, “The holidays are extra hard for Brad. He misses his kids more than ever. He does get to see them but it’s not nearly as much as he would like and it’s always up to Angelina when it happens.”

There are multiple problems with this. First off, the notion that a “colleague” of Pitt’s would be sharing his intimate feelings about his children is preposterous. Secondly, it’s no scoop to say he misses his children, especially more during the holidays. That is a fairly common sentiment among separated parents who have to spend time away from their kids. And thirdly, it’s not “always up to Angelina” when Pitt gets to see his sons and daughters. Since their custody battle is not yet resolved, they are working off a temporary agreement that is overseen by a third party. HollywoodLies, as it’s commonly called, would know this if it really had legitimate sources.

What’s also crazy is this purported “colleague” supposedly goes on to detail how the custody arrangements are “hard” on Pitt’s parents. Why would someone associate with him business-wise know how his parents feel and see fit to share that information with a blog? That’s preposterous, too. The online publication also notes that “A rep for Mr. Pitt declined to comment to HollywoodLife.com on this.” It’s unclear why “Mr. Pitt” is referenced when he’s referred to simply as “Brad” throughout the piece. More importantly, the lack of comment from the actor’s spokesperson should not be interpreted as implicit confirmation that this is an authentic, accurate news story.

In actuality, Pitt’s rep typically declines to comment on any stories involving the children. This is for their privacy, to which they are entitled. But HollywoodLies is apparently content to write about the kids frequently if it means getting traffic. And that’s accuracy be damned, too, as was proven earlier this year when the webloid’s fake news story about Pitt’s Father’s Day plans blew up in its face. As for the upcoming holiday, as Gossip Cop has already reported, those plans are being kept under wraps for privacy and safety reasons. But Pitt spent time with his kids for Christmas last year, and it stands to reason that he will again this time around. Should he not, though, that will be because of an agreed upon custody schedule, as opposed to a unilateral decision Jolie made against him.
