Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are not planning to “double date,” despite a claim from a website known for making up stories. Gossip Cop can expose this latest falsehood. Pitt is focused on his family and his work, not his dating life.

But HollywoodLife is announcing in a headline, “Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio Becoming Fast Friends & Will Definitely Double Date.” With the actors working together on Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, the site claims they’ve “sparked quite a bromance.” A so-called “source close to Brad” is quoted as saying, “Brad and Leo are really becoming fast friends now that they are working together.”

Both are described as “legendary with the ladies,” with the supposed snitch contending, “And when it comes to girls, they would be happy to double date if those options presented themselves.” Alleges this untraceable tipster, “They know the fun they could have as a team as eligible bachelors. With Brad and Leo together going on dates they would be like the 1927 Yankees, they’d never lose.” Actually, while the team had a stellar year and won the World Series, the 1927 Yankees still lost 44 games.

It seems this unidentifiable “source” just wanted to make a hyperbolic comparison, but Gossip Cop prefers to deal with facts. And the reality is, Pitt and DiCaprio are not “becoming fast friends.” They’ve already been pals for years. In fact, Pitt produced the Oscar-winning movie The Departed, in which DiCaprio had a lead role. They also both participated in a short film called The Audition for Martin Scorsese, who directed The Departed. The blog’s questionable insider, who clearly isn’t very knowledgeable, is wrongly making it seem like they’ve only become friendly because of their new project. That’s not the case.

The outlet also doesn’t acknowledge that the pair aren’t even currently filming together. Pitt returned to London this week to spend time with his children. That’s where his main focus lies, beyond his professional obligations. Indeed, “Entertainment Tonight” reported on Wednesday that Pitt is “choosing fatherhood over dating.” That means he’s not dreaming up “double dates” with DiCaprio.

A Pitt confidante even tells Gossip Cop on the condition of anonymity, “He is going to be seeing his kids in London and in L.A., so how much time would he have for this anyway?” A spokesperson for the dad of six also confirms to Gossip Cop this tale is inaccurate. And it seems the only reason it was concocted was because DiCaprio shared the first official picture of himself and Pitt in character on Wednesday. As we’ve pointed out before, HollywoodLies, as the site is nicknamed, often takes real news and uses it as the inspiration for manufactured narratives.

Conclusion: The online publication is claiming Pitt and DiCaprio are now “fast friends” due to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, but they’ve known each other for years and have worked together before. The story is largely about their on-set bond, yet Pitt is currently on another continent. And a far more reputable outlet has already reported that “all he wants to do is focus on family,” as opposed to dating. And while HollywoodLies is hiding behind an unnamed “source,” Pitt’s spokesperson confirms to Gossip Cop on the record that this story isn’t accurate. It’s apparent the website just wanted an “exclusive” after DiCaprio shared the first look at their film, but the facts here are clearly wrong.
