Brad Pitt and Jennifer Garner never dated, but exactly one year ago today, a tabloid falsely claimed the two stars were having “secret hookups.” Gossip Cop debunked the phony story when it first emerged. Time has proven it even more false.
On October 22, 2018, NW falsely claimed Pitt and Garner had been secretly dating for several months. According to the magazine, the two were meeting up at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where they’d sneak in through the back so they’d go unnoticed. The story lacked logic from the get-go. The Beverly Hills Hotel is a Hollywood hotspot frequented by many tourists and industry people. It’s not where two people go for “secret” dates. If Pitt and Garner had truly been meeting up at the hotel, it’s nearly impossible they could go unnoticed while doing so.
Still, an anonymous insider told the outlet that Pitt liked Garner because “she’s Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie combined,” having both a “girl-next-door nature,” but also being “a strong woman and action heroine.” The premise was based on the word of an unknown source, but Gossip Cop ran the scenario by Pitt’s spokesperson, who told us on the record that he wasn’t dating Garner.
Mere days after Gossip Cop corrected these romance rumors last year, the news emerged that Garner had been dating businessman John Miller for a few months. The couple is still together. NW, which clearly has no insight into the personal lives of celebrities, mistakenly believed the actress was single. Meanwhile, Pitt seems mostly focused on his kids and his career.
Unfortunately, NW isn’t concerned with facts, so the tabloid kept hammering at the phony narrative in the week that followed. Gossip Cop also called out the publication last October for wrongly reporting Garner was leaning on Pitt amid Ben Affleck’s struggles with sobriety. This was nothing but a weak attempt at dragging the actress’s famous ex-husband into the fictional saga.
Immediately following that nonsense, the tabloid insisted Pitt wanted Garner to co-star with him in a Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel. Gossip Cop will give the magazine a few points for creativity on that one, but absolutely no points for accuracy. After spending around a week on this subject, the magazine dropped the storyline altogether after it became clear Garner was in a relationship with Miller. Naturally, the tabloid never bothered to correct its fake narrative or provide any explanation about what happened to Pitt and Garner’s “secret hookups.” Instead, the magazine moved right along and created new fiction about both stars.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
