A new story about Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston having a “secret Aspen reunion” is late and wrong. How wrong? Completely. How late? About six months. Gossip Cop can explain what’s going on with this fake news.

In an online article dated July 7, 2018, New Idea states, “Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are the subject of a shocking report out of the US today, which sensationally claims the pair have been ‘busted’ over an alleged secret Aspen reunion, after a ‘hotel concierge blew their cover.'” The tabloid credits Star for the original report and quotes an unnamed “source” as saying, “They’ve been growing closer ever since Jen reached out to Brad after his split from Ange… During their long talks, they realized just how strong their bond still is.”

New Idea then asserts Pitt and Aniston have “arranged to meet up on a skiing break.” “While she will be accompanied by close friends, it seems there is room for Brad,” adds the outlet. The publication concludes its article, “Reps for both Brad and Jen have denied Star’s story.”

Of course, that begs the question: Why is New Idea peddling this tale at all if Pitt and Aniston’s own reps, who are authorized to speak on their behalves, have confirmed it is untrue? But that’s not what’s so bizarre about this fake news story. Aside from these contentions being entirely false and made-up, they’re also six months old.

The Star cover story that the publication is referring to was published on January 3, 2018. And within hours of it hitting newsstands, Gossip Cop rightly reported that the Pitt-Aniston Aspen “reunion” narrative was 100 percent not true. We explained how the deception began right on the cover, with a photoshopped image of the exes that gave the appearance they were photographed in Colorado together.

This was actually a bit of a bait-and-switch. The front of the issue led readers to believe Pitt and Aniston had already been “busted” in Aspen, but the article inside the magazine was about a future trip they were supposedly planning to take. Regardless, it was all bogus untrue, and we further revealed how it was inspired by an equally phony December 2017 NW story about Pitt and Aniston going to Aspen. At the time, Gossip Cop spoke with their respective camps about these falsehoods, with Pitt’s rep giving us an on-the-record denial, and a spokesperson for the actress bluntly telling us, “It’s just all another fabrication with no relationship to reality or the truth.”

Not surprisingly, time has shown their official comments were spot-on, as the former spouses never went on this purported ski trip together. In fact, in February, People reported that Aniston and Pitt hadn’t even seen each other in “ages.” And just last month Aniston’s pal Portia de Rossi also confirmed she and Pitt haven’t seen one another. Neither Star nor NW ever issued a retraction or correction, which may be why New Idea is regurgitating the wrong information. But doing so in July makes zero sense and only further tricks readers with fake news.

Conclusion: In December and January, NW and Star respectively concocted fabricated claims about Pitt and Aniston meeting up in Aspen. Gossip Cop busted all of the allegations when they initially came out, and the passage of time has proven we were correct to do so. They never went to Colorado, as their reps assured us, nor have they been seen anywhere together at all. Now months later, New Idea is inaccurately and unjustifiably printing the debunked assertions as if they are current and true. The tabloid’s claims, however, are very late and very wrong, which is why we’re rating its article as fiction.
