Did Brad Pitt really propose to Jennifer Aniston at a Golden Globes afterparty? That's the absurd premise of a new tabloid story. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
"Brad Stuns Jen: 'Marry Me!'" reads the headline of the latest cover of In Touch. According to the magazine, Pitt shocked onlookers at the Netflix afterparty following the Golden Globes when he gave his ex-wife a $1.2 million engagement ring. An alleged insider tells the outlet, "They've fallen in love all over again, and Brad wanted to make things official. So he took a leap of faith."
The unknown source goes on to say that as "everyone looked on with their mouths agape," Aniston "said yes" to the proposal. "She never expected him to propose, and Brad I don't think was sure she was going to say yes," adds the anonymous tipster. "But he had to do it. It's like they're destined to be together. Everyone has said that for years, and now they believe it, too."
From there, the unidentified source says Aniston called Pitt's mom, Jane, to break the news. "Jen and Jane always had a close relationship, even when Angelina [Jolie] was in the picture." The seemingly imaginary insider goes on to say that Pitt and Aniston are making plans for their future, which includes another wedding.
The "source" also maintains that Pitt will use the wedding as a way to end the bad blood between him and Jolie. "Brad plans on inviting Angie to his and Jen's second wedding. He thinks it will further heal their wounds. Plus, he wants all the kids to be there." The supposed tipster adds, "Brad wants everyone to get along, even Jen and Angie. He wants Angie to be OK with him and Jen being together again."
The tabloid's report is as fictional as it gets. For starters, it makes zero sense. Are we to believe that Pitt proposed to Aniston in front of every guest at the Netflix afterparty, but In Touch is the only outlet in the world reporting the news? Regardless, Aniston's own spokesperson confirms that the magazine's article is fabricated. Despite what the outlet's untraceable "insider" claims, the actress's rep confirms she's not back together with Pitt, let alone engaged to him.
During an interview on the red carpet prior to the Golden Globes, Pitt referred to Aniston as a "good friend," and said he looked forward to running into her. Pitt also joked about his dating life while accepting Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He quipped, "I wanted to bring my mom but I couldn't, because anyone I stand next to, they say I'm dating." Simply put, Aniston is a good friend who Pitt isn't dating.
Just last month, Gossip Cop busted In Touch for falsely claiming Pitt and Aniston announced they were back together at her Christmas party. No such announcement was made. Around this time last year, the publication insisted that Pitt and Aniston were having a baby girl together. They weren't. This latest story about the ex-spouses is more nonsense.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
