Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston did not have a romantic dinner at George Clooney's house in Italy earlier this summer, despite a completely untrue report. Gossip Cop can debunk the ridiculous story. As we've repeatedly stressed, the ex-spouses aren't back together in any capacity.
According to the National Enquirer, however, Pitt and Aniston reunited in Sardinia this summer after Clooney "played matchmaker" for them. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "He's always adored Jen and Brad remains one of his closest friends. George has made no secret that he'd love for them to get back together."
The supposed source goes on to say that Clooney invited the ex-spouses to his home in the hope of reigniting a spark between the two, and the plan worked. "He arranged a dinner for just the two of them and for them to take a sail on a yacht. It was beyond romantic," adds the questionable tipster. The "insider" further contends that Aniston and Pitt are taking things slow for now as they "both have a lot going on in their personal lives" and would rather "keep things under wraps until they know what this is."
The tabloid's article, which is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable source, is the equivalent of fan fiction. Reps for both Pitt and Aniston, who are authorized to speak on their behalves, confirm that no meeting between the two took place over the summer, either in Italy or anywhere else. Tellingly, the tabloid doesn't provide a specific date of when their supposed dinner occurred. Aniston has been in Europe all summer filming the Netflix movie Murder Mystery, while Pitt has been in Los Angeles shooting Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The ex-spouses haven't been in contact and the actor didn't travel to Italy this summer.
Meanwhile, "Entertainment Tonight" reported in July that Pitt "has taken a step away from dating" amid his custody battle with Angelina Jolie because he "doesn't want to rock the boat." A candlelit dinner with his ex-wife would probably be an example of "rocking the boat." Additionally, Aniston's friend Portia de Rossi told Us Weekly in June that she and Pitt "haven't seen each other," even adding, "I know for a fact."
Conclusion: Pitt and Aniston have been on different continents all summer, making a romantic dinner at Clooney's house an impossibility. Meanwhile, the Enquirer's story is based on claims from an unknown "insider," but spokespeople qualified to speak on behalf of the exes confirm they never met up. Even one of Aniston's close friends confirmed this in a recent interview. The tabloid's account of events simply never happened.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
