Have Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston had “double dates” with George Clooney and his wife Amal? That was a magazine’s claim exactly one year ago today. Gossip Cop noted it was nonsense back then, and it remains untrue to this day.

On March 13, 2018, New Idea maintained Clooney pulled strings behind-the-scenes to get Aniston and Pitt to “reconcile,” before adding there would soon be “double dates with George, wife Amal and Brad and Jen.” To make its story seem legitimate, the tabloid quoted an alleged “source” as saying that following Aniston’s split from Justin Theroux, Clooney really “stepped up [his] efforts” to get the “Former” friends star and Pitt “back together.”

Bizarrely in that same piece from 12 months ago, the publication asserted that at a dinner in Los Angeles with Pitt, Bradley Cooper, and Sean Penn, Clooney told the other guests how he “reunited” Aniston and her ex-husband. The outlet, which seems to operate in an alternate universe, further insisted Aniston “caught up with Brad and George” later that night. Incredibly, the least of the tabloid’s problems was that Clooney was not at that meal to celebrate Penn’s book, Bob Honey Just Do Stuff, with Pitt, Cooper and others, including Laura Dern and Eddie Vedder.

The larger issue is Aniston and Pitt did not get back together, thanks to Clooney, at the time of that false report or in the intervening 365 days. While it’s true he briefly stopped by Aniston’s 50th birthday party last month, Pitt and his ex-wife are not a couple, and they most assuredly are not going on “double dates” with the Clooneys. The claim was a complete fabrication back then, and it’s still not remotely accurate.

Sadly, the tabloid has not become any more reliable since that tale. Three months after that article, Gossip Cop busted the publication when it wrongly maintained Pitt and Aniston threw a “custody party” with George and Amal Cooney to celebrate the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star “winning back” his kids from Angelina Jolie. Of course, Pitt has not won custody of their six children, and there was no such party.

And on the subjects of celebrations, Aniston and Pitt did not get married at her birthday party last month, as absurdly contended by that same outlet three weeks ago. For starters, Pitt is still married to Jolie. And equally important, the actor and Aniston are not even dating, despite the magazine’s phony narratives.

As Gossip Cop has previously explained, we often revisit articles from a year before to help readers better understand which magazines they can and cannot trust. While, at times, a few of them have been in the same room together for events or parties, never have Aniston and Pitt been seen on “double dates” with Amal and George Clooney. Simply, New Idea seems to enjoy printing fan fiction about Pitt and Aniston.
