Brad Pitt’s attendance at Jennifer Aniston’s 50th birthday party earlier this month sparked a lot of false tabloid stories. Many unreliable outlets pretended to know what went down before, during and after the bash. Here are five wrong rumors about the situation.

Gossip Cop busted New Idea for falsely claiming Pitt crashed an intimate pre-birthday dinner for Aniston and a few of her closest friends. According to the magazine, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi arranged a small dinner at West Hollywood’s Soho House prior to Aniston’s big party at the Sunset Tower Hotel. Pitt was said to have been at Soho House for a meeting at the same time, and made a surprise visit to the low-key meal when he heard Aniston was in the building. Not only did a rep for the actor tell us on the record that the incident never happened, but a source close to DeGeneres told us she never hosted a pre-birthday dinner for Aniston.

Gossip Cop called out NW for wrongly reporting that Pitt made a heartfelt toast at Aniston’s birthday party. The magazine said the movie star shocked everyone at the event by making an impromptu speech in honor of his ex-wife. In addition to a rep for Aniston telling us on the record the story was untrue, “Entertainment Tonight” reported Pitt didn’t stay at Aniston’s party for very long. “He came to support her, spoke to other friends of his that were there and headed out,” noted the publication.

New Idea escalated things even further by publishing an absurd story about Pitt and Aniston getting married at her birthday party. The tabloid contended the event wasn’t just a birthday celebration, but also a surprise wedding between the ex-spouses. The actress’s spokesperson told Gossip Cop the report was complete nonsense. Meanwhile, reliable entertainment outlets such as People magazine reported Aniston “didn’t really pay any special attention” to Pitt during the party. The publication noted that the two had a friendly chat, but spent most of the night mingling with other guests.

Gossip Cop also busted Woman’s Day Australia for claiming Pitt and Aniston went on a “romantic getaway” following her birthday party. The tabloid didn’t bother to mention where the two went on their supposed vacation together. Regardless, Aniston’s rep told us on the record the story was “fabricated.” And E! News explained Pitt went to Aniston’s party to support her as a friend, but “they definitely aren’t dating or on that path.”

And finally, Gossip Cop called out the Globe for maintaining Pitt “betrayed” Charlize Theron by going to Aniston’s party. The report was based on the false premise that Pitt and Theron are dating, which they aren’t. The actor’s spokesperson has made it clear several times that he’s not in a relationship with the South African actress and never has been. Pitt didn’t “betray” a woman he’s not dating by attending his ex-wife’s birthday celebration.
