Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie did not "fake" their split, despite a wholly made-up report that wrongly claims the couple's divorce is part of a "master plan." Gossip Cop can reveal the truth. We're told it's "absurd" and "not true."

According to the Australia's Yahoo, "Hollywood's golden couple" are ready to become "Brangelina" once more, since their public split was nothing more than part of the "ultimate PR stunt." In the article, a so-called "source" is quoted as saying, "Breaking up and getting back together will put them back on top and back in favor with fans and the powers-that-be in Hollywood." The website maintains the "fake" split was simply put in place after their film By The Sea flopped. The outlet's alleged "insider" asserts, "In the end, [Pitt and Jolie] figured that orchestrating a big, dramatic split, and having it play out in public courts with authorities involved, would feed the public's appetite for them. And it worked."

How exactly was having Pitt investigated for alleged child abuse by the FBI and Los Angeles County's Department of Children and Family Services part of an "ultimate PR stunt"? And how was Pitt's public acknowledgement of smoking too much pot and drinking heavily part of a "master plan"? None of those nor some of Jolie's perceived behavior in the aftermath of their divorce announcement won "favor with fans and the powers-that-be in Hollywood."

The claim is, at best, preposterous. Still, Gossip Cop fact-checked this bizarre tale. A source close to the situation assures us the contention that Pitt and Jolie purposely orchestrated their breakup to increase their fame in Hollywood is simply "absurd" and "not true."

As we have repeatedly noted in previous busts, Pitt and Jolie's divorce is going forward. They are certainly not getting back together, nor are Pitt and Jolie "consciously re-coupling," as falsely maintained earlier this month by the Daily Mail. The only thing that's truly "fake" in the Yahoo article is the website's premise that Brangelina staged their split.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
