On Thursday, Gossip Cop debunked two separate reports claiming Brad Pitt was dating jewelry designer and spiritual healer Sat Hari Khalsa. We learned from trusted sources that there's no romance between the pair. Unfortunately, the bogus rumors have continued to spread online.
RadarOnline and The Sun both wrongly reported this week that Pitt and Khalsa are dating. The only proof? The pair sat next to each other at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music gala last weekend. Photos from the function show the actor and jewelry designer laughing and chatting. The two simply had a friendly interaction, but they're not a new couple.
As Gossip Cop also noted in our original debunking, Pitt and Khalsa didn't attend the gala together. Both are close friends with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who founded the annual benefit. As we also pointed out, "Entertainment Tonight" recently reported that Pitt "has taken a step away from dating" amid his custody battle with Angelina Jolie. The reliable outlet noted that the actor is completely focused on his children at this time.
Still, The Daily Mirror decided to spread the false speculation by writing a story with the headline, "Brad Pitt sparks dating rumors as he looks cozy with female friend at charity event." YourTango went with the headline, "Who Is Sat Hari Khalsa? New Details About Brad Pitt's Rumored New Girlfriend." And Metro wrote, "Brad Pitt 'back on the dating scene' as he's spotted 'getting cozy' with spiritual healer Sat Hari Khalsa."
None of these articles include any new reporting or fact-checking. They simply regurgitate the false claims started by RadarOnline and The Sun. Gossip Cop, however, checked in on Thursday with a source close to Pitt, who told us, "There are no truth to these rumors that they are dating. They did not attend together. They were just photographed near one another."
It's worth noting, a similar situation occurred earlier this year when a slew of outlets wrongly reported that Pitt was dating MIT professor Neri Oxman, who he met through an architecture project. Those romance rumors lasted for quite some time, but finally died down once it became clear that the two weren't in a relationship. Gossip Cop was told from the start that Pitt and Oxman had a "professional friendship," but many other outlets decided it was a love affair.
Unfortunately, it's likely the gossip media will now take advantage of this false narrative about Pitt dating Khalsa, and perhaps come up with additional angles. As always, Gossip Cop will continue to separate fact from fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
