Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lawrence are just a few of the big stars the tabloids have falsely claimed would be quitting Hollywood. Of course, all of these A-listers are still steadily working, despite the gossip media saying they’d be leaving show business. Here are just a few examples of Gossip Cop correcting this recurring theme.

Just last month, the National Enquirer falsely claimed Roberts was quitting Hollywood and adopting a child to save her marriage to Danny Moder. The magazine alleged the spouses didn’t “have a huge amount in common except their kids,” so they had decided to adopt a child and quit their careers in an attempt to save their relationship. Not only Roberts has said in the past that she’s done having children, but her Instagram page is filled with loving mentions of her husband of 17 years. Additionally, the actress will be starring in and producing the Amazon drama Little Bee, which is currently in pre-production.

Gossip Cop also called out the Enquirer in July for wrongly reporting Pitt was quitting acting to become a beekeeper. The tabloid said Pitt was introduced to the hobby by his Once Upon A Time In Hollywood co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and had “gone all in on the craze” by building “bee villas” in his backyard. This absurd premise seemed to come from a GQ Australia interview in which Pitt revealed he planned on taking a step back from acting to concentrate on producing. However, Pitt never said he was quitting Hollywood completely. A spokesperson for the movie star also laughed off the notion that he was becoming a professional beekeeper.

In March, Gossip Cop debunked an Us Weekly cover story about Lawrence quitting Hollywood for her fiancé Cooke Maroney. The outlet maintained that the Hunger Games star was stepping away from the spotlight to marry Maroney, an art gallery director. The article never fully explained why Lawrence needed to give up her career to get married. The report was completely unfounded. In fact, just three months after it was published, Lawrence began shooting a new movie by director Lila Neugebauer.

In February 2018, Gossip Cop busted the Enquirer for publishing a report claiming Affleck was quitting Hollywood and moving to a farm in upstate New York. The tabloid insisted the actor wanted to “flee Tinseltown for a laid-back life.” Since the bogus article was published, Affleck starred in the Netlfix movie Triple Frontier, and has another seven films in various stages of production. Two of those projects are done shooting and will be released in 2020. Meanwhile, Affleck still lives in Los Angeles.

There have been many other stars who were allegedly “quitting Hollywood,” according to the tabloids. In the past few years, Gossip Cop has corrected similar stories involving Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel, Edward Norton, Morgan Freeman, Michael Fassbender and Mila Kunis, just to name a few. This ongoing narrative never seems to pan out.
