Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie never went on a secret trip together to settle their divorce, but exactly one year ago, a gossip blog claimed that would be happening. Gossip Cop debunked the story when it first emerged. 365 days later, it remains untrue.
On February 26, 2019, RadarOnline made up a story about Pitt and Jolie planning a "getaway" to an undisclosed location where they'd finalize their divorce and end their custody battle in private. According to the website, a "change in scenery" would help the exes get past whatever issues had been getting in the way of settling their divorce. An alleged insider said Pitt and Jolie agreed that a "relaxed setting outside of L.A." over the course of a "long weekend" would help them "hash things out." The logic of this piece was questionable from the start. It's unclear how a weekend getaway would solve years of tumultuous negotiations over their finances and children.
For whatever reason, the supposed source felt the need to mention that the estranged spouses would be staying in "separate rooms." Even if this weekend trip were a reality, why would anyone assume the warring exes would share a bedroom? The outlet then made a point of noting that both Pitt and Jolie were tired of dropping a "fortune on legal fees," but the site also maintained they'd be brining their lawyers on the secret getaway. Apparently the blog didn't realize that this would result in them having to cover the cost of travel, meals, hotel accommodations and all other expenses for their attorneys. Suffice to say, the process would be infinitely more expensive than settling things locally.
Separate individuals within both Pitt and Jolie's camps assured us last year that the story was bogus. In the year since we debunked the story, the estranged spouses have still been struggling to finalize their divorce. In October, Pitt and Jolie asked the court for more time to get their financials sorted as they still couldn't agree on how to split up their fortune. Whatever other reasons there might be for the holdup, it's clear the exes never went on a secret getaway to settle their legal battle.
Unfortunately, RadarOnline is still pretending to have insight into the situation, despite its articles not panning out. Just last month, Gossip Cop busted the site for falsely claiming Jennifer Aniston was helping Pitt break free from Jolie. That story was absurd. The Friends star isn't involved in her ex-husband's divorce in any capacity.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
