Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie did not “retreat to the mountains in a desperate bid to re-spark their romance,” despite a new In Touch report claiming the couple had a “secret trip” to save their marriage. Gossip Cop can bust this story.

According to the tabloid, Pitt and Jolie took their “make-or-break vacay” to Crested Butte, Colorado, in February, “after months of tension and arguments.” A so-called “source” tells the outlet, “They thought the getaway could be an antidote to all the problems and stress of the past few months.”

Because no tabloid story about Pitt and Jolie is complete without a gratuitous mention of Jennifer Aniston, In Touch also explains that the couple took the trip during the Oscars to avoid awkwardness with Pitt’s ex-wife. “Brad didn’t want a showdown between Angie and Jen in front of their peers while millions of people were watching,” a so-called “insider” tells the outlet.

Of course, In Touch has a long history of sensationalizing every single thing Pitt or Jolie does to elevate the idea that they’re constantly in crisis. Last month, the publication claimed they were doing the movie Africa together as a “last-ditch effort to repair and save their marriage.”

Back in December, In Touch falsely alleged that Jolie’s relationship with her Unbroken star Jack O’Connell was threatening her marriage. The month before that, In Touch ridiculously claimed Jolie and Pitt had had the “fight to end all fights” in Australia. Over and over, In Touch just kinda says… stuff. And the stuff doesn’t come true, and then In Touch still expects to be taken seriously.

Well, Gossip Cop is getting sick of it. This latest story is just more of the same nonsense. Jolie and Pitt took a trip. That’s it. It wasn’t to “save their marriage.” It wasn’t “desperate.” That describes In Touch, not Pitt and Jolie. A source close to the situation tells Gossip Cop, “The story is false.”
