Brad Pitt is not "fuming" over Angelina Jolie's so-called "pervert pal," despite an online report that's both late and wrong. Gossip Cop already debunked this rumor nearly two weeks ago. Now we can set the record straight again.
On July 18, sister outlets the National Enquirer and RadarOnline both claimed Pitt planned to use an alleged child predator against Jolie in their custody case. The tabloid's story ran in print, while a nearly identical version appeared on Radar's website. Both articles stemmed from the arrest of Joel Davis, a Columbia University student who stands accused of child sex crimes.
David passed himself off as an activist for a number of years, but allegedly engaged in criminal behavior in May and June of 2018, leading to his arrest last month. His lone connection to Jolie is from 2014, when they both participated in the United Nations' Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict. But the magazine and the blog wanted readers to believe Pitt intended to use this link against Jolie in court. A so-called "insider" cited by both publications maintained, "To think that Angie has been associating with a guy like this was enough to make Brad pick up the phone to his lawyers."
But, as noted above, Jolie and Davis only crossed paths a single time four years ago. What's more, though, is that Gossip Cop presented photo evidence that Pitt was at the summit with Jolie (see one picture above). That meant he is just as connected to the alleged predator as she is. Furthermore, while the tabloid and the site claimed Pitt feared Jolie "may have exposed their kids" to Davis, absolutely no proof was presented to back such a contention up.
It simply made no sense to allege Pitt thought he could "win control" of their kids because a person they both once met was arrested for child sex crimes years later. During our investigation, Gossip Cop also checked in with one of our contacts close to the actor, and we were told on background that the claims were "B.S." While the details of Pitt and Jolie's summer custody agreement call for them to be back in court in August, there is no rhyme or reason for this topic to be on the docket.
But now almost two weeks after our clear and transparent debunking, the National Enquirer is reviving this bogus narrative by posting it online with the headline, "Brad Fuming Over Angelina's Pervert Pal." Exclaims the tabloid on its website, "Jolie's ties to predator could hand him custody victory!" The magazine essentially regurgitates its print article, calling the purported issue the "latest wrinkle in the Pitt-Jolie divorce." But this isn't a real "wrinkle" at all. It's an angle the outlet manufactured along with RadarOnline, with whom it shares a staff.
Despite the roughly 14 days that have passed since this storyline was first peddled and subsequently busted, the Enquirer has no new evidence to support it. It is offering the same false allegations as if they're new and truthful. They're not. They're late and wrong.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
