Exactly one year ago, a tabloid falsely claimed that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s divorce was just an elaborate publicity stunt and the two would soon reunite. The premise was ridiculous 365 days ago and it obviously never panned out. As time has shown, the estranged spouses aren’t back together.
On September 11, 2017, Yahoo! Australia concocted an bogus premise about Pitt and Jolie faking their split in an effort to get the public interested in them. It was alleged that the exes believed “orchestrating a big, dramatic split, and having it play out in public courts with authorities involved” would boost their celebrity status. According to the outlet, the two were planning to reconcile once their breakup garnered enough attention.
The narrative made very little sense. Pitt and Jolie are two of the biggest movie stars in the world and the public was just as interested in them while they were still together. Meanwhile, both have been hit with lots of negative publicity since the beginning of their divorce proceedings. Pitt was investigated by child services and admitted to having an alcohol problem, while Jolie has been accused of maliciously keeping the kids away from their father. Why would either of them want to bring about that kind of publicity?
After the article was published last year, a source close to the situation assured us it was ludicrous. As time has shown, there’s nothing fake about Pitt and Jolie’s split. In fact, the situation has become more contentious over the past year. Pitt and Jolie are involved in a nasty custody battle over their six kids, and it’s one of the reasons they haven’t been able to finalize their divorce. A judge recently ordered the actress to allow the children to spend more time with their father, and as a result, she alleged he wasn’t providing enough child support. Once again, this isn’t the type of publicity that A-list movie stars need. Both have achieved superstar status thanks to their successful careers, not their tense divorce.
Regardless, the passage of time has completely disproven the website’s utterly insane storyline. Earlier this year, “Entertainment Tonight” reported that Pitt and Jolie “can barely be in the same room together.” And last month, Us Weekly said Jolie “can’t see past her anger” towards Pitt and “has objected to the coparenting classes” recommended by the courts. Simply put, the animosity between the exes has escalated over the past year. They’re not back together and aren’t headed that way. The idea that their split was some sort of publicity stunt is just absurd.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
