Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s divorce is getting “nasty” again, according to a wrong report from the tabloids. While the exes have yet to finalize their split, it’s not because of a new fight between the estranged spouses. Gossip Cop can bust this story.
It’s true that when Jolie initially filed for divorce from Pitt in September of 2016, there was a lot of tension between the stars. Over time, however, their dynamic improved. By May of 2017, Jolie and Pitt were talking again, and they agreed to focus on co-parenting their six children. Still, they have not finalized a permanent custody agreement, nor a divorce settlement. As a result, they recently requested for a court extension to continue to keep their case in the hands of a private judge.
Now OK! Australia is trying to spin that extension request into something scandalous and dramatic. Its new issue features the headline, “Frail Angie’s Divorce Battle: ‘There’s No End In Sight.'” The gossip magazine alleges the former couple was all set to finalize their divorce in January, until their discussions “blew up.” It’s alleged Jolie wants to “control everything,” and that she “reversed course” when Pitt “push[ed] too hard” to come to an agreement.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because these allegations, and even the quotes, are repurposed from In Touch, which last week claimed Pitt and Jolie’s divorce was “stalled again.” The two publications are both owned by Bauer Media, and they sometimes share content regardless of accuracy. As Gossip Cop reported, however, the divorce wasn’t suddenly “stalled.” It was never “days away” from being settled. That’s why the extension was requested, precisely because it was ongoing.
But the two outlets are misrepresenting the situation to falsely make it seem like a new dispute erupted. In fact, OK! quotes an almost assuredly fictional “insider” as saying, “The divorce has turned nasty once again. Unless Angelina has a change of heart, Brad has been boxed out again, and the divorce and custody battle will rage on.” This simply isn’t accurate.
While Pitt doesn’t spend time with Jolie, he hasn’t been “boxed out” from his children’s lives. In accordance with the temporary custody arrangement, he sees his kids regularly. Nothing about the situation is particularly “nasty” at this point in time. But dividing assets and planning for the future when six minors are involved is a complicated process. Neither is interested in rushing things, which is why they sought the extension. In the meantime, Jolie and Pitt’s settlement negotiations remain amicable, not “nasty.”
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
