One of this week’s tabloids claims the reason that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have yet to finalize their divorce is because they’re battling over money. Gossip Cop, however, can exclusively debunk this theory. We’re told it’s simply not the case.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, but the papers have yet to be signed. According to OK!, the estranged spouses’ $400 million fortune is the reason behind the delay. A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “They’re both playing hardball. Angie wants a huge cash payout, plus stakes in their properties and their assets divided up equally. That’s a huge sticking point for Brad, who invested tens of millions into his art collection and various passion projects that had nothing to do with her.”

The outlet’s alleged insider adds, “There are a lot of emotions involved and it’s difficult for them to truly move on until this divorce is finalized. Angie keeps hoping Brad will roll over, but after everything that’s happened, he’s standing his ground.” The seemingly phony source concludes, “It’s hard to believe one of them isn’t exhausted yet.”

But Gossip Cop checked in with both Pitt and Jolie’s, who exclusively tell us that the tabloid’s account of events simply isn’t accurate. We’re told there are several different factors involved in the ex-couple’s divorce filing, but money isn’t the main issue that needs to be worked out. In fact, Pitt and Jolie signed an “ironclad” prenuptial agreement prior to getting married, so the division of their assets is mostly settled. The custody of their six kids, on the other hand, is a more complicated scenario.

It should be noted, OK! is the same unreliable outlet that’s published several false reports about the exes reconciling. Gossip Cop busted the publication last year for wrongly reporting that Pitt and Jolie were spending Christmas together, which obviously didn’t happen. Before that piece of fiction, we called out the tabloid for falsely claiming that Pitt had moved back in with Jolie and the kids. This latest article surrounding their divorce settlement is similarly untrue.
