Boy Band Finale Recap August 24 2017

(ABC)

On Thursday’s “Boy Band” finale, the winning singers were announced and the new group, called In Real Life, performed “Eyes Closed” for the first time. Get the results and watch the video below!

As Gossip Cop has reported, “Boy Band” is the latest music-themed reality show. It premiered on ABC back in June, with “architects” Nick Carter, Emma Bunton and Timbaland hoping to put five standout young singers together for the industry’s next great boy band. After private auditions in front of the producers, the first episode showcased 30 finalists trying out for the panel of superstars. They narrowed down the crop of contenders to 18, and then spent the months of July and August reconfiguring the contestants into different groups to see how they performed individually and with one another.

Part-way through the competition, the show went live, with America getting a say in which aspiring stars stayed in the running and which were cut. The architects would choose a bottom two or three, and viewers at home were able to vote during the broadcast for which performer deserved redemption. Those with the lowest amount of votes were eliminated. Only eight contestants remained for last week’s semifinals, during which they all had to give solo performances. And the architects could no longer affect the outcome, aside from offering feedback. After the penultimate episode ended, it was up to the fans to determine which five should ultimately make the final group: Brady Tutton, Chance Perez, Drew Ramos Jaden Gray, Marcus Pendleton, Michael Conor, Mikey Jimenez or Sergio Calderon.

As host Rita Ora explained earlier in the season, the boy band will score a record deal with Hollywood Records, and release Justin Tranter’s “Eyes Closed” as their first official single. In prior episodes, the singers met with hit songwriter Tranter to discuss the song, and later participated in a photo shoot for the eventual cover art. All the while, though, they had no idea which of them would be left standing at the end of the journey, getting to perform the track for the first time as a newly-formed group.

The finale, though just an hour in length, was jam-packed with special performances and, of course, results. It kicked off with Timbaland and Rita Ora performing his song “The Way I Are.” As they were joined by the contestants, Bunton came out to lead the Spice Girls’ “Say You’ll Be There.” Carter and the Backstreet Boys then came out for “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” Afterward, Ora revealed more than 150 million votes were cast to determine the winners, and said the members would be unveiled throughout the episode. But first, Carter announced the boy band would be named “In Real Life.” Ora then crowned Tutton as the first boy in the band.

The host was the next to perform, singing her current single, “Your Song.” Then, following a performance from Sofia Carson, Ora revealed Perez and Ramos were the next two to make the band. After James Arthur sang his hit “Say You Won’t Let Go” and Bell Biv DeVoe performance their classic “Poison,” it was time for the final results. Ora announced Calderon and Conor won the last spots. Unfortunately, that meant Gray, Pendleton and Jimenez were not in the group.

To recap: The final boy band, In Real Life, features Brady Tutton, Chance Perez, Drew Ramos, Sergio Calderon and Michael Conor. And following the last commercial break, they all performed “Eyes Closed” live for the first time. Check out the videos below!
