Are Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani “on the rocks” over a prenup battle? That’s what a tabloid wants readers to believe, as this tale is part of an ongoing untrue narrative. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
Last week, Star claimed Stefani dropped a “prenup bombshell” on Shelton by unexpectedly demanding he sign a prenuptial agreement. The article had sketchy sourcing, and Gossip Cop was assured that not only is the couple on the same page when it comes to their future, but no one close to them would be discussing that future with a tabloid in the first place. A rep for Stefani also dismissed the story. But now there’s a follow-up piece, which claims she and Shelton are “on the rocks” due to her “iron-clad prenup.”
“Blindsided by her prenup, Blake Shelton has dropped a bombshell of his own on galpal Gwen Stefani. Not only is the country crooner declining to sign on the dotted line, he won’t marry her with one,” the gossip magazine now contends, asserting that after Stefani “had her lawyers draw up legal documents to protect her hefty assets,” Shelton “balked at a cheating clause that states an affair would cost him $5 million.” Notably, a week ago, the outlet only said there was a “rumored stipulation” about $5 million fee for cheating.
Now it’s being stated as fact, and a so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “He was insulted. He told Gwen if she wants to get married, she’ll have to trust him.” Meanwhile, a supposed “Stefani source” maintains, “She thought he’d be totally onboard with the idea.” This alleged tipster claims that after not having a prenuptial agreement with Gavin Rossdale, “Gwen isn’t going to take that chance again. She’d be risking the future of her three children.”
“And the one she may be expecting with Blake,” adds the publication, without actually saying if Stefani and Shelton are indeed having a baby. The “insider” ultimately concludes, “Gwen is disappointed that he won’t sign, but she’s standing firm.” That sure makes it seem like the couple is at an impasse if she’s “standing firm” on a prenup and he “won’t marry with one.” So now what? Tellingly, the tabloid doesn’t say. That’s because this isn’t about delivering a thorough, well-reported news story.
It’s about continuing to deceive fans with a concocted storyline. If they don’t wed, Star can claim it’s become neither would cave. And if they do marry, it can allege Stefani backed down on having a prenuptial agreement or Shelton gave in on signing it. This is a magazine that falsely claimed the stars had a wedding set for last October and then again this past May, neither of which is mentioned now. The outlet already laid all its cards out on the table and proved it doesn’t have reliable insight on their relationship. That’s why it comes as no surprise that Gossip Cop is told this “on the rocks” prenup story is made up, just like the one from last week.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
