Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani did not get married last summer, despite a report from exactly one year ago today. At the time, Gossip Cop called out a particular website for making up the tale. It was a total lie then, and there’s no question now 12 months later that the whole story was yet another fabrication from an outlet that’s often referred to as HollywoodLies.

On June 12, 2018, HollywoodLife cooked up a piece about Shelton and Stefani making arrangements for a “secret” wedding last summer. Apparently, it was so secret that not even Stefani and Shelton knew about it. In the manufactured story, the frequently debunked blog contended a supposed “source close” to the No Doubt singer shared how the couple was “getting married” within days or weeks. The same unnamed and untraceable “source” reiterated that the couple was set to throw a “surprise wedding this summer,” meaning in 2018, and it was slated to happen at “Blake’s place in Oklahoma.”

As we noted 365 days ago, the blog’s article lacked specifics and proof. It had no particular date for the purported nuptials or any other details. HollywoodLies simply asserted its story came from a “source close” to Stefani, but how “close to Gwen” could that anonymous “source” have been if he or she had no idea when the supposed wedding was taking place? Now it appears the tipster may have even been fictitious.

Conversely, Stefani’s rep at the time told Gossip Cop the entire tale was “untrue.” Since that phony report, Stefani’s spokesperson even singled out HollywoodLies, telling us on the record, “I just pretend they don’t exist.” And that’s because the site has published a mind-boggling number of bogus articles about the singer.

Actually, as widely reported, Stefani spent a good chunk of the summer of 2018 in Las Vegas performing her “Just A Girl” residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Additionally, two months before the made-up “summer wedding” story, Shelton himself said he thinks about marrying Stefani, but stressed it wasn’t happening “anytime soon.” And a full six months after HollywoodLies’ article, in an interview with the “Today” show, Stefani acknowledged she feels “zero pressure” to even get engaged to Shelton.

Gossip Cop is not revisiting this article in an effort to pat ourselves on the back. Rather, we review certain claims from the past to help readers figure out which outlets they can and cannot rely on for accurate information about the couple, who will both be coaches on Season 17 of “The Voice.” It’s clear, with the passage of time, that HollywoodLife’s “source,” if he or she even exists, was 100 percent wrong about Stefani and Shelton having a “summer wedding” last year.

Significantly, though, that was hardly the only falsehood about the singers that HollywoodLies has posted. In the year since that story, Gossip Cop has had to repeatedly correct the outlet. Interestingly, the site seemingly forgot it maintained the two were going to wed in the summer of 2018, because by November of that same year, it claimed Stefani was hoping only for an engagement ring for their third “anniversary or [the] holiday season.” But when the holidays also passed, and there was no engagement news, the blog tried to cover its track once again with an absurd piece which Gossip Cop busted about how Stefani was “relieved” Shelton didn’t propose on Christmas.

By January 2019, it had concocted yet another angle that falsely alleged Stefani was suddenly “afraid” and “hesitant” to marry Shelton. Given all the contradictory and provably untrue stories the blog publishes, it’s understandable if one doesn’t entirely trust that site. And from strictly an accuracy standpoint, Gossip Cop would advise readers to not fully buy into the outlet’s tales unless it names and quotes its source on the record.
