The tabloids often publish false stories about Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton breaking up, with many of these reports involving the country star “dumping” his girlfriend. Gossip Cop has debunked many takes on the subject. Here are a few examples.
Back in 2017, Gossip Cop busted an In Touch cover story claiming Shelton had “dumped” Stefani and called off a planned “live TV proposal.” An anonymous “insider” told the magazine that the producers of The Voice “would love nothing more than for Blake to propose on live television,” but the country star didn’t think the timing was right. Of course, Shelton and Stefani were both judges on the reality competition show at the time, as they will be again for its upcoming 17th season. Nothing about the report was true, as we confirmed at the time with Stefani’s rep.
The story was also filled with holes, as one section of the article said Shelton was “cooling things off” to “make them stronger in the long run.” Well, which was it? Was Shelton just slowing things down as the article seemed to suggest or did he dump Stefani as the cover headline screamed? The tabloid clearly wasn’t convinced by its own phony premise.
Around 10 months later, In Touch recycled the exact same headline for yet another bogus report claiming Shelton had dumped Stefani. The tabloid doubled down on the story, this time, again citing an unnamed “tipster,” who claimed that Shelton had grown “tired of dealing with their many problems.” The “source” further asserted that the No Doubt singer was “heartbroken.” She couldn’t have been too “heartbroken” considering that the couple is still together, a year and a half later. Stefani’s spokesperson confirmed with Gossip Cop that the story wasn’t true and time has proven as much.
In October 2018, the National Enquirer published an incorrect story about Stefani and Shelton splitting up. In that article, an unverified “insider” said Shelton had a “change of heart” about having a baby and dumped Stefani right before their third anniversary together. The source also claimed Stefani was “devastated,” and that the couple was “living apart and barely communicating.” Not only was the couple still together then, they are certainly living together now, having just purchased a huge estate in Beverly Hills together.
And in May, Life & Style wrongly reported that Shelton had dumped Stefani on Mother’s Day. An unnamed insider was quoted as telling the magazine, “The surprise Gwen got was shocking. There were no signs that he was unhappy, so she’s racking her brain, looking for any and all clues.” That wasn’t the case. Just a few days prior to the story being published, Stefani and Shelton were spotted packing on the PDA at a theme park in California. They’ve continued packing on the PDA in the months that have followed.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
