Blade Runner Box Office

Blade Runner 2049 won the box office, though its opening was much lower than expected and, by most accounts, even a disappointment. Get the details, and check out the grosses for this weekend’s Top 10 movies below.

Blade Runner 2049 is the sequel 1982’s Blade Runner, a science-fiction film starring Harrison Ford. The first flick bombed at the box office but became a cult favorite. The follow-up, the plot of which has largely been kept under wraps for fans to fully enjoy in the theater, brings back Ford, with Ryan Gosling as his new co-lead. The cast also includes Jared Leto and Robin Wright.

Despite a rather long run-time of 163 minutes, critics have largely praised the film, and many thought it would debut with around $45 million. But that projection was way off and instead the movie earned just $31.5 million. That’s a rough start for a project that cost a reported $150 million to make. The upside: This was the best opening of Gosling’s career, and the same goes for director Denis Villeneuve. Plus, Blade Runner 2049 took first place in this week’s rankings.

Coming in second was The Mountain Between Us, with ticket receipts totaling $10.1 million. Taking a close third was It, with $9.7 million. Not far behind was My Little Pony, which secured fourth place, thanks to its haul of $8.8 million. And in the fifth spot was the Kingsman: The Golden Circle with $8.1 million.

Rounding out the Top 10 were American Made. It nabbed sixth and $8 million, followed in seventh place by The Lego Ninjago Movie, with $6.8 million. Coming in eighth was Victoria & Abdul with $4.1 million, and Flatliners in ninth with $3.8 million. Just making it into the Top 10 was Battle Of The Sexes. It earned $2.4 million.
