Is Donald Trump to blame for Billy Bush's split from his wife? It was announced two weeks ago that the TV host and Sydney Davis were separating after nearly 20 years of marriage. A new report claims the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape with Trump led to the breakup. But Gossip Cop can exclusively reveal the truth.
"Why Billy's Wife Left Him," reads the headline in In Touch, an ironic choice since the tabloid actually gives the wrong explanation. The gossip magazine claims "there has been tension between the parents of three since last October, when an old 'Access Hollywood' tape of Billy cheering on Donald Trump as he made inappropriate comments about women, including Nancy O'Dell, was released, costing him his job at 'Today.'" And as a result, "Sydney left him," a so-called "source" alleges to the gossip magazine.
This supposed snitch contends, "Sydney was upset that Billy didn't immediately call Nancy to directly apologize to her." What's more, asserts the outlet, is that Davis "got sick of the constant pity party Billy threw himself as he struggled to find work." Adds the publication's alleged tipster, "Sydney finally said, 'Enough is enough.' Sydney deserves peace in her life, and ending the marriage to Billy was the only option."
And, apparently, In Touch thought running these allegations without fact-checking them was the tabloid's "only option." But had the magazine investigated beyond its "source," it would've learned that Bush and Davis' split had to do with issues that had nothing to do with Trump and the controversial tape. In fact, far from the footage driving the pair apart, Gossip Cop is exclusively told that Davis was "incredibly supportive" to Bush during that difficult time. "Sydney has been amazing and still continues to be," one contact tells us.
Another insider we spoke with also maintains the reasons given here for the separation are "100 percent not true." It seems the outlet simply went for the low-hanging fruit, choosing a convenient explanation that tied into a scandal. By doing so, the publication ignored reality and previous reporting. Nearly a year ago, Gossip Cop busted the New York Post for wrongly claiming Bush's wife was "furious" about the leaked tape.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
