Bill Cosby is “not guilty” of sexual assault and won’t take any kind of plea deal, his attorney said on the “Today” show on Thursday. Watch below.

As Gossip Cop reported, on Wednesday Cosby was charged with aggravated indecent assault stemming from a 2004 incident with Andrea Constand, who claims he drugged her before committing digital penetration. She is one of more than 50 women who have accused Cosby of some kind of sexual assault, but this is the first time he has been charged with a crime. And though he did not enter a plea during his arraignment, his legal team released a statement afterward vowing a “vigorous defense” against the “unjustified” charge.

Cosby’s attorney Monique Pressley elaborated Thursday morning during a “Today” interview. “My client is not guilty, and there will be no consideration on our part of any sort of arrangement,” she said when asked about a potential plea deal. Pressly was adamant that Cosby was only now being charged due to a “a game of political football, in which my client’s life is the center.”

“If you look at the deposition itself,” she said, referring to the unsealed legal document from Constand’s civil suit that was used as evidence for the criminal charge, “then you’ll see there’s no admission of criminal wrongdoing with respect to Mr. Cosby.”

The lawyer also noted, “I have confidence in that system of justice, and as I’ve said in any number of interviews on this network and elsewhere, I believe when you separate what happens in a court of law from what has been allowed to happen in the fictional court of public opinion, you will get an outcome that justice requires.”

As for how Cosby’s doing, Pressley, who accompanied the star at the arraignment, said, “I can’t testify really about his state of mind, personally. He’s been accused unjustly of a crime, so certainly that’s upsetting. But he’s in good spirits and he knows he has a legal team that is intent on defending him until he’s exonerated.” Check out the full interview below, and tell us what you think.
