Many of Bill Cosby’s accusers are reacting to the news on Wednesday that he was charged with indecent aggravated assault and now faces up to 10 years in jail.

As Gossip Cop reported, Cosby’s charge stems from an alleged sexual assault encounter with Andrea Constand in 2004. While she previously brought a civil suit against him, new information uncovered this summer has led Cosby to be charged with a felony within the 12-year statue of limitations. Now some of the more than 50 women who have also accused Cosby of druggings and/or sexual assaults are commenting.

Joseph Cammarata, an attorney who represents seven accusers, calls the charge “a positive step in its own right and positive step in the civil cases against him.” His clients include Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis, and Angela Leslie, who, as Gossip Cop reported, recently banded together for a defamation suit against Cosby. He in turn has counter-sued them.

Cammarata says in his new statement, “The charges clearly send a message that there is a belief of sufficient evidence to get a conviction beyond a reasonable doubt — an even higher standard than in civil court. This clearly undermines Mr. Cosby’s claim that his encounter with Ms. Constand was consensual.”

Another accuser, Sarita Butterfield, tells TMZ, “I believe that now people are now seeing him for what he really is.” She also has harsh words for Cosby’s wife, Camille, who has stood by his side throughout the scandal. “If I could tell his wife something, I would tell her, ‘Shame on you for being an accessory to his criminal act,'” says Butterfield. “She should be charged also as an accomplice.”

Accuser Sammie Mays tells the outlet, “I nearly lost faith this day might never happen,” adding, “Please don’t let him die without being convicted because it will save his reputation.” And Carla Ferrigno, the wife of Lou Ferrigno, says she’s “very, very happy that finally someone brought this down.”

“I am pleased he will finally have consequences for his behavior,” she tells TMZ, adding, “God bless Andrea.” Gossip Cop will have updates.
