One of the tabloids claims Beyonce is "beside herself with regret" for turning down Lady Gaga's role in A Star Is Born. The story isn't true. Gossip Cop can correct it.
According to the Globe, Beyonce "was originally going to play the part" that went to Gaga, but "dropped out because she was pregnant." A supposed source tells the magazine that the singer is kicking herself for passing on the film now that Gaga is winning awards. "Her biggest goal in life is to win an Oscar and it's dawned on her that this could have been her chance," adds the alleged tipster.
The magazine's article is fairly inaccurate. Back in 2011, Beyonce was in talks to star in a fourth remake of A Star Is Born that was to be directed by Clint Eastwood. The singer didn't pass on the film, but she did in fact get pregnant during its development, at which time Eastwood moved on to another project. Years later, Cooper signed on to direct and star in a remake, but it was a different version than the one being developed with Beyonce. Cooper helped rewrite the screenplay and decided to cast Gaga as his leading lady.
It's also worth noting, a fourth remake of A Star Is Born had been in the works for nearly two decades before Cooper and Gaga's version hit the big screen. During that time, dozens of stars and directors dropped in and out of the project, including Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lopez and Alicia Keys, to name a few. Beyonce just so happened to be attached at on point as well.
Despite the outlet's story being flawed, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to the situation, who confirms it's fabricated. Unfortunately, we're not surprised by the magazine's bogus story. This narrative about another celebrity being envious of Gaga's success with A Star Is Born has been a recurring theme in the tabloids.
Last year, Gossip Cop busted the Globe's sister outlet, RadarOnline, for making up a story about Madonna being "livid" that Gaga was getting Oscar buzz for the musical drama. Shortly after that, we called out Star for falsely claiming Jennifer Lawrence was furious with Bradley Cooper for casting Gaga in the movie instead of her. Shortly later, the same magazine wrongly reported that Mariah Carey was jealous of Gaga's burgeoning movie career. This latest article involving Beyonce is similarly untrue.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
