Betty White is not dead, despite a death hoax that began on Twitter and resulted in her name trending on the social media site. Gossip Cop can exclusively report it’s untrue. A rep for the actress tells us, “She’s alive and well.”

One report that made the rounds on Twitter read, “Betty White dead at 95,” and went on to allege that the “legendary television personality was found dead in her hometown of Oak Park, Illinois.” Another fake news story that claimed the actress died stated, “Betty White has died, confirms publicist” and asserted that she passed away “at the age of 95 in her Beverly Hills home.” Of course, neither of the manufactured claims are true.

The fake news, however, panicked fans who expressed their condolences on Twitter. One user wrote, “I’m so sad,” adding, “Prayers to her family.” Another fan expressed, “I see Betty White trending on Twitter and i’m too scared to click on it, oh my god.” And another supporter tweeted, “I honestly have a mini panic attack every time Betty White trends.”

Thankfully, White is 100 percent fine. In fact, as the hoax began to trend, Gossip Cop was told White was sitting in hair-and-make-up at the “Late Late Show” getting ready to be interviewed by James Corden. Her episode will air Wednesday night.

Sadly, this is not the first time there’s been a death hoax about the actress. Back in 2014, Gossip Cop similarly busted a report on Twitter that alleged the TV icon had passed away. The headline that time around read, “Actress Betty White, 92, Dyes Peacefully In Her Los Angeles Home.” As we’ve said before, it’s time these nasty death hoaxes die out.
