One of this week's tabloids claims Benedict Cumberbatch's busy career is hurting his marriage to wife Sophie Hunter. There's no truth to the story. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
According to OK!, the actor is completely focused on work these days and it's causing problems between him and his wife of four years, with whom he shares two young sons. A supposed source tells the magazine, "He's been getting the kinds of offers that he can't possibly pass up. He's pulling in a fortune and has more Marvel movies planned, in addition to his usual roster of high-end dramas, but it means a lot of time away from his family."
The alleged insider further contends that Cumberbatch is "at a crossroads" when it comes to navigating his marriage and his career. "There's no doubt that he wants to spend more time with his wife, but he needs to strike while the iron's hot - and that's right now," adds the questionable tipster.
The magazine's premise is simply untrue. This past Sunday, Cumberbatch gave an emotional speech at the BAFTA TV Awards, during which he said, "There is one other person in this world I have to thank and that's my wife Sophie, you were my rock." The actor, who won the Leading Actor award for his performance on the miniseries "Patrick Melrose," further noted that the role required him to go to "pretty weird" places "and it was very nice to come home and feel stable again."
Additionally, Cumberbatch and Hunter were photographed showing a ton of PDA on the red carpet at the British awards show. And just last week, Cumberbatch and his wife held hands while walking the red carpet at the Met Gala. The actor's wife also accompanied him to the premiere of Avengers: Endgame last month. Not only are the spouses spending plenty of time together, but it's clear their happy while doing so.
Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who wasn't able to speak on the record, but assures us the outlet's report is completely made-up. Meanwhile, this idea of a celebrity's professional life affecting their relationship is a recurring theme in the tabloids. Gossip Cop recently debunked a story claiming Reese Witherspoon's busy career was "putting a strain on her marriage." We also corrected a bogus report about Margot Robbie's career threatening her marriage. The premise didn't apply to those stars and it's no more accurate in Cumberbatch's case.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
