Ben Higgins is slamming a split story from Us Weekly as “fake news.” He and fiancée Lauren Bushnell are still very much together, contrary to the speculative report.

On Wednesday, the tabloid published a purported “exclusive” on its website with the headline, “Have Bachelor Alums Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell Split?” While acknowledging that the couple “may not officially be done,” a so-called “source” was quoted as saying, “A breakup has been coming for awhile. They don’t get along. She’s told people recently how hard it is. He’s a great guy, but they should split.”

To fuel its rumor, the publication pointed out that Bushnell recently took two trips “without her main man — or her 4.25-carat Neil Lane sparkler.” The piece was filled out with quotes from Bushnell and Higgins about not yet setting a wedding date. But a lack of nuptial plans doesn’t necessarily mean a split.

And now Higgins is calling out the erroneous story. Along with a photo of himself hugging and kissing Bushnell, the reality star wrote on Instagram, “No need to respond often to rumors or ‘fake news’ but the feeling I have in this picture is the same feeling I have for this girl today. We have entered into a world where rumors will exist we know that, but just know as @laurenbushnell celebrates her birthday tomorrow I am still extremely lucky to be able to share life with her and be by her side.”

The snapshot can be seen above. To its credit, Us Weekly amended its story with an “update” at the top to include Higgins’ post. But the speculative headline remains. See how the tabloid originally spread its tale on social media below.
