Ben Affleck is not ready to propose to his girlfriend Lindsay Shookus, despite a new tabloid report. Gossip Cop can correct this claim. While the actor and "Saturday Night Live" producer are in a committed relationship, Affleck and Shookus aren't going to get married anytime soon.
According to Woman's Day, Shookus and Affleck are "taking their romance to the next level." The magazine alleges its supposed "insiders" confirm Affleck has already asked Shookus' father for her hand in marriage after he spent time with his girlfriend's parents and gotten to know her daughter Madeline. A so-called source tells the publication, "Ben is very serious about Lindsay and it's important to him to get to know her parents and become involved in her daughter's life, too." "He's going the extra mile to win them over," adds the unnamed, untraceable and conceivably made-up "insider."
The tabloid acknowledges "there's one hitch in the 45-year-old's proposal plans — he's still married to Jennifer Garner." Actually, there are two hitches since Shookus is still married to "Late Night With Seth Meyers" producer Kevin Miller. The magazine concludes its story with it's alleged insider saying, "It won't be a surprise to anyone if they start a family of their own."
So, is Affleck really ready to propose to Shookus, even though they both are legally married to other people? The answer is a resounding "no." Gossip Cop asked the actor's rep, who's authorized to speak on his behalf, about whether a wedding was in the works and we were told the rumor is "not true."
A little more than three weeks ago, "Entertainment Tonight" also reported that Affleck and Shookus aren't rushing into marriage. The outlet noted that the actor is taking "things slow for the sake of his sobriety." The TV series' website specifically mentioned how the actor "isn't ready to propose and has no plans to get engaged anytime soon."
But, for the sake of argument, let's not take the word of Gossip Cop or the reputable entertainment program's insiders. Instead, let's examine Woman's Day's Affleck sources. Just a few month ago, and glaringly omitted from the current article, the exact same magazine swore up and down that Affleck had dumped Shookus and was back together with Garner.
One of the tabloid's alleged insiders maintained, "He's determined to prove himself as a family man and begged Jen to let him prove that he's serious this time... The time apart has only made him realize how much less of a person he is without her." Of course, in the real world, Affleck and Shookus have been spotted spending the summer together in L.A., and for the most part living in his new home. Here's a good proposal: Maybe the magazine should find better Affleck sources and fact-check its claims before publishing them.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
