Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus are not married, despite a report from exactly a year ago that falsely claimed they were going to wed. Gossip Cop busted the story at the time, and now it's clear our reporting was right. The couple isn't even together anymore.
But on September 7, 2017, we examined an In Touch article with the headline, "Ben & Lindsay: Getting Married!" According to the tabloid at the time, Affleck was "ready to wed" Shookus, and was "already talking marriage" with her, despite still being legally married to Jennifer Garner. In fact, Shookus was still married to her estranged, husband, too.
"Ben knows Lindsay's the one. They plan to tie the knot as soon as their divorces are finalized," claimed a so-called "insider." It was said the wedding would take place in New York, with the untraceable source asserting, "They both agree that it would be a very small affair. They don't want a church wedding, just an intimate gathering, a few friends." The magazine's alleged tipster even purported to know that Shookus wanted to wear a Vera Wang gown.
Insisted the supposed snitch, "They both think that their second marriage will be the one that lasts." It was further claimed that Garner was unaware of Affleck's intentions to remarry. "Ben hasn't told Jen about wanting to marry Lindsay... as she'd likely freak out and tell him it's too soon," maintained the questionable "insider." But what was really "too soon" was this story.
When Gossip Cop investigated, we learned the claims were premature. Affleck and Shookus had only gone public with their relationship the prior July, and while they were happily progressing with their romance, it hadn't yet come even close to the walking-down-the-aisle stage. An Affleck confidante even told Gossip Cop on the condition of anonymity, "There is no truth to this." And the passage of time has since show that that was, well, the truth.
Though the outlet subsequently went on to claim in July 2018 that Affleck and Shookus were planning to get married, they actually split weeks after that similarly bogus tale was peddled. Affleck's breakup with Shookus was confirmed in late August, shortly before he entered rehab for his ongoing alcohol addiction. People even reported that Affleck was "never fully committed" to Shookus.
That, of course, goes against In Touch's ongoing storyline about the pair preparing to wed. It should also be noted that on top of the wedding stories, the tabloid also repeatedly spread rumors about Affleck and Shookus having a baby together. Obviously, those were way off-base, too. And it is clear, 12 months after the original story, Affleck and Shookus never got married.
