Ben Affleck‘s ex-girlfriend, Lindsay Shookus, did not bash him during a recent dinner with Jennifer Lopez, who was once engaged to the actor. That premise is featured in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop has learned it’s all nonsense.
Last week, Lopez shared dinner with the cast and crew of Saturday Night Live ahead of her hosting gig. Several outlets noted that Shookus, a producer on the sketch show, was in attendance at the dinner. Many publications even sold the story as Affleck’s exes getting together. That wasn’t exactly the case. It’s a custom at SNL for the host to get dinner with the cast and crew during the week of their show.
Woman’s Day is taking the premise the furthest by running with the headline, “Ben’s Exes’ Big Night Out!” The article says the two women “shared a cozy dinner together in New York City.” That description couldn’t be more misleading. There was nothing “cozy” about the dinner, which was attended by dozens of SNL employees. The unreliable outlet, however, tries to make it seem as if Lopez and Shookus got together for a one-on-one meal.
An alleged insider tells the magazine, “If I know Jen and Lindsay, neither of them would’ve held back on talking about Ben.” It’s safe to say this “insider” doesn’t know either women. The questionable source adds, “Particularly Lindsay, who saw the worst of him as they tried to sort out his drinking problem after his divorce from Jennifer Garner.” From there, this same “source” goes from speculating about what was talked about to somehow knowing Lopez’s reaction to what was talked about. “J. Lo was coy though – she just laughed and said they had a lot in common,” adds the tipster.
There are a few things to unpack here. First, the insider starts off by speaking in hypothetical terms, only assuming that Lopez and Shookus spoke about Affleck. Next, the insider insists that Shookus did actually bash her ex-boyfriend during dinner, but Lopez was “coy” about it all. That’s after saying “neither of them would’ve held back.” None of this adds up. Gossip Cop is also curious – does this “source” know Lopez as “Jen” or as “J. Lo”? It seems unlikely that anyone close to the singer would call her both names in the span of a few sentences.
Woman’s Day also fails to mention that Lopez’s fiance, Alex Rodriguez, was at the SNL dinner. Are we to believe that Shookus would bring up the singer’s ex-fiance in front of her new one? Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who tells us the tabloid’s report is fabricated.
Last year, Gossip Cop busted Woman’s Day for wrongly reporting that Affleck would be proposing to Shookus. Months prior, however, the same outlet claimed Affleck had dumped Shookus and was moving back in with Jennifer Garner. It’s clear the magazine has never had insight into the romance between the movie star and the SNL producer. The tabloid doesn’t have any more insight into where they stand now – or what went down during the SNL group dinner.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
