Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are still the joint subject of false tabloid stories, despite having split 15 years ago. Gossip Cop has debunked many recent reports about the exes. Here are a few wrong rumors.
In February, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for falsely claiming Lopez was getting Affleck back into shape. According to the magazine, the actor was having trouble staying fit following his stint in rehab last year, so he reached out to his ex-fiancee for help. An alleged insider told the outlet Affleck was "getting great advice" from his ex, who was "flattered to be of assistance." The unreliable tabloid, however, didn't bother to mention what kind of workout tips the singer had given the actor. The story was also based on claims from an anonymous "source," but the actor's own rep told us on the record that it was nonsense.
Back in January, Gossip Cop called out NW for wrongly reporting that Lopez was dumping Alex Rodriguez for Affleck. The unreliable outlet maintained that the singer's relationship with the former MLB star was "hanging by a thread" and she was in "constant contact" with her ex-fiance. The magazine even alleged that Lopez and Affleck were hanging out at private houses and meeting up for discrete dinner dates. Less than two months after we debunked the bogus story, Lopez and Rodriguez got engaged. The singer is headed down the aisle with her new fiance and never reunited with Affleck.
Just four months before Rodriguez asked for the singer's hand in marriage, the Enquirer maintained Affleck wanted Lopez back. The tabloid didn't provide an explanation as to why the actor wanted to reunite with his ex-fiancee a decade and a half after their breakup. It simply alleged to have a "source" who shared, "Ben's grasping at straws," but to Lopez, Affleck was nothing more than "yesterday's news."
As Gossip Cop noted back in November 2018, when the story first appeared, the actor had no interest in reconnecting romantically with Lopez. An Affleck confidante assured us the entire tale was untrue. The insider stressed that the movie star was focused on his family with Jennifer Garner, his career and his sobriety, not on Lopez.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the first time a tabloid tried a similarly false narrative. In June 2017, In Touch also insisted Affleck was trying to win Lopez back from Rodriguez. Nearly two years ago, the magazine reported the actor was "jealous" and "hate[d] that Jennifer is dating Alex." And the feelings weren't just one-way, according to the outlet.
The publication claimed Lopez was "very confused" because she's "never stopped loving" Affleck. A supposed "insider" was quoted as saying how when the two talked, Lopez couldn't help but be "reminded of how much chemistry they have." Much like a chemistry experiment gone bad, that article blew up in the tabloid's face. An Affleck insider told Gossip Cop the story was "absurd," a word that pretty much sums up all of the stories linking Lopez and the movie star over the past couple of years.
And finally, Gossip Cop busted Life & Style in March 2017 for making up a story about Affleck and Lopez planning a "secret reunion." The magazine maintained that the singer invited her ex-fiance to come see her perform at her Las Vegas residency, and he was taking her up on the offer. From there, a so-called "source" told the outlet that the exes were likely headed for a reconciliation. Of course, the movie star was never spotted at one of the singer's concerts. And very shortly after we corrected the report, the news emerged that Lopez was in a relationship with Rodriguez.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
