Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are not gearing up for a "nasty" fight over money as their divorce proceeds, despite a bogus new tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this claim.
The estranged spouses officially filed for divorce in April, slightly more than a year and a half after separating, and now In Touch claims the actress is determined to get a large chunk of her ex's fortune. A supposed "source" tells the magazine Garner is angry about Affleck's rumored affair with their ex-nanny and his new relationship with "Saturday Night Live" producer Lindsay Shookus, adding, "For all this and more, Jen has made the decision to go after Ben's future earnings."
The outlet's dubious insider goes on to say the actress has been "reaching out to top Hollywood divorce attorneys" to get cut of her estranged husband's Batman franchise, and although "she wanted the split to be amicable, she needs a pit bull who isn't intimated by Ben's power and wealth and who will be relentless in getting her the biggest divorce settlement possible." The seemingly phony source concludes, "I imagine Ben never expected Jen to go after his future earnings, and he will absolutely be furious about it and want to fight her on it."
But Gossip Cop checked in with a trustworthy source close to the situation, who exclusively assures us the exes aren't battling over money, and there's "no truth" to the magazine's claim otherwise. We're further told, "They have worked very hard to keep this cohesive and amicable out of respect for one another as well as the kids." Of course, In Touch has proven to be a very unreliable source for finding accurate news about the estranged spouses, so this latest piece of fiction isn't surprising.
Gossip Cop called out the clueless tabloid earlier this year for reporting Affleck and Garner were getting back together and having a fourth child, but they filed for divorce just weeks later. We also previously busted the publication for falsely claiming Affleck's mom begged Garner to call off their divorce. This latest article surrounding the estranged spouses is equally untrue.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
