One of this week’s tabloids alleges that Barbra Streisand is on the verge of death from a compulsive eating disorder. Gossip Cop can debunk the outrageous claim. It’s completely untrue.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Streisand admitted, “I love food too much.” The singer added, “I eat when I’m sad, I eat when I’m happy… People don’t realize what food does for you. It makes you feel good.” Streisand’s comments were enough for the Globe to diagnose her with a deadly binge-eating disorder.

The outlet quotes a doctor who hasn’t treated the singer as saying, “Overeating can obviously lead to an increased risk for heart disease and hypertension – plus dozens of other illnesses.” Another medical expert, who also hasn’t treated Streisand, tells the magazine, “Weight gain, particularly excess fat in the liver, becomes far more dangerous as a person ages.”

The professional opinions of these doctors may very well be true, but they’re generalizations that don’t apply to Streisand. The tabloid took statements that the singer made in an interview, then spoke to random doctors about the dangers of overeating, and put them together. Naturally, the tabloid left out the part of the singer’s interview in which she also revealed that she’s currently on a diet.

Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Streisand, who tells us on the condition of anonymity that the magazine’s article is both false and ridiculous. We’re assured the performer is in perfectly good health. Enjoying food isn’t the same thing as having a deadly overeating problem.

It’s worth noting, this isn’t the first time one of the tabloids has diagnosed the singer with a fake medical condition. Just last month, Gossip Cop busted the Globe’s sister publication, Star, for falsely claiming that Streisand was suffering from dementia. That phony article was also based on comments from a doctor who’s never treated the singer.

As for the Globe itself, Gossip Cop recently called out the magazine for falsely claiming that Streisand was joining Scientology after being recruited by Tom Cruise. That hasn’t happened.

Meanwhile, the tabloid also has a habit of attempting to kill off legendary singers. Gossip Cop frequently calls out the magazine for alleging that Cher’s health is in rapid decline. This past August, the outlet wrongly reported that Cher needed a “miracle cure” to prevent her from dying. It’s clear the tabloid has no insight into the medical conditions of celebrities.
