Exactly one year ago, a tabloid falsely claimed Barbra Streisand was dying from a binge-eating disorder. Gossip Cop debunked the phony report as soon as it was published. 365 days later, it’s clear the legendary singer is in perfectly good health.

On December 6, 2018, Gossip Cop called out the Globe for making up a morbid story about Streisand being on the verge of death due to her compulsive eating. The only reason the story was concocted was because the signer admitted in an interview with the Daily Mail that she has a complicated relationship with food. Streisand had noted, “I eat when I’m sad, I eat when I’m happy… People don’t realize what food does for you. It makes you feel good.”

The singer’s comments alone were all the magazine needed to decide she was at risk for “heart disease and hypertension – plus dozens of other illnesses.” The outlet even quoted a doctor who’s never treated or met Streisand as saying, “Weight gain, particularly excess fat in the liver, becomes far more dangerous as a person ages.” That might be a general truth, but it didn’t apply to the singer.

The outlet also deceptively left out a section of Streisand’s interview in which she explained she was on a diet. The publication simply borrowed a few comments the singer made about her eating habits and concocted a dramatic and untrue story about her dying. It was all nonsense, as a source close to Streisand assured us this time last year.

In the time since we corrected the Globe’s bogus article, the 77-year-old singer has continued performing. In August, Streisand played Madison Square Garden for the first time in 13 years. She even recently gave health advice to a much younger performer. After Ariana Grande was forced to cancel a concert due to illness, Streisand wrote to her on Twitter, “Take a strong Vitamin C drink with some Manuka honey and of course get some chicken soup!” It’s worth noting, Streisand has been very active on Twitter.

Unfortunately, the tabloids have continued attacking the singer’s health for no good reason. This past June, Gossip Cop busted the Globe’s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for falsely claiming Streisand’s friends feared she was headed for a heart attack. That article didn’t mention an eating disorder, but instead said the singer was having health issues related to stress and marriage problems with James Brolin. The singer’s 21-year marriage is going strong, as is her physical condition, despite these baseless reports.
