Nick Carter and the Backstreet Boys performed on Thursday’s “Boy Band” season finale. Check out the video below!

As Gossip Cop has reported, Carter signed on to be one of three “architects” on ABC’s new reality show. Along with Emma Bunton of the Spice Girls and hip-hop superstar Timbaland, he spent the summer searching for five young singers to make up, well, a boy band. As a member of the Backstreet Boys, which is still gong strong after more than 20 years, Carter certainly came into the competition with plenty of experience, as did his co-judges.

And on the very first episode in June, in which the all-star panel cut the number of contestants from 30 to 18, he actually gave an impromptu dance lesson to some of the young aspiring stars. In a matter of minutes, the contenders had to pick up the iconic moves to the Backstreet Boys’ “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” Throughout the following installments, Carter counseled the singers on not just their choreographed dancing, but also their vocal abilities and personas. And unlike on some other music-themed reality shows, he wasn’t afraid to be critical at times, offering blunt feedback when he felt some competitors fell short.

In fact, during an episode earlier this month, Carter and Bunton actually quarreled a bit on whether contestant Sergio Calderon deserved to be in the bottom two. “I don’t feel as if you have risen to the occasion,” he candidly told the teen, insisting to his colleague, “He’s not connecting with America.” As it turned out, though, viewers didn’t exactly agree, as fans voted to save Calderon from elimination. But no one could say Carter was anything less than passionate and serious about his role. As he said in a “GMA” interview nearly two months ago, “I want to find the star power… Obviously, they have to have the talent, and these guys can sing their butts off.”

Throughout the season, the show has featured guest appearances by legendary groups or notable members from such acts. For instance, one episode featured fellow Backstreet Boys member A.J. McLean, along with Bobby Brown and Chris Kirkpatrick. Boyz II Men and En Vogue gave performances, too. For the big finale, Bell Biv DeVoe was also on hand. But it was especially fitting that Carter and BSB finally performed, along with Bunton and Timbaland. Watch the video below!
