A new report claims Kristin Chenoweth was jealous of Ariana Grande stealing the spotlight during NBC's "A Very Wicked Halloween." Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story. We're told it's completely untrue.
Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, the original stars of the hit Broadway musical, reunited for a televised concert featuring songs from the show to celebrate its 15th anniversary. The pre-taped special, which aired Monday night, featured many special guests, one of which was Grande. According to Naughty Gossip, however, Chenoweth became "green with envy" over all the attention paid to the singer.
The blog claims that producers of the show weren't sure if Grande would show up following her split from Pete Davidson, so everyone was particularly excited when she arrived on set. An alleged insider tells the blog, "Poor Kristin Chenoweth didn't know what to do. She was one of the original witches in the show and thought it was going to be her night."
The outlet's supposed source continues, "Not only did Ariana out-sing her, but after breaking off her engagement in such a public way, the audience had Ariana's back from the second she stepped onto the stage at the Marquis theatre." The questionable tipster adds, "The night was all about Grande."
Here's what the website doesn't mention: Chenoweth recently gushed about Grande and revealed she's "known her since she was nine years old" and considers her "like my family." Just prior to the TV special, the Broadway star told E! News, "It's a moment that I'm gonna get to watch her have, one that she's wanted for a long time, that I knew would happen."
Chenoweth went on to talk about having previously worked with Grande on "Hairspray Live!" in 2016, saying, "She's a complete professional, she takes her work very seriously and knows how to have fun, too." Additionally, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the Broadway actress, who tells us the outlet's article is "not true at all." Our reliable insider adds that Chenoweth "has known [Grande] forever and they adore each other."
It should also be mentioned, Chenoweth gave Grande a shoutout on Twitter while the broadcast was still airing on Monday night. During the singer's performance of "The Wizard and I," the actress wrote, "This song... Isn't @ArianaGrande just rocking the #Wicked green?!" Chenoweth later retweeted a video of Grande performing the hit track. The blog's premise is simply fabricated.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
