A tabloid is alleging that Antonio Banderas is considering dumping his girlfriend of five years, Nicole Kimpel, because he’s still in love with ex-wife Melanie Griffith. There’s no truth to the story. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
According to OK!, Banderas is unhappy in his relationship with Kimpel, an investment adviser who’s 20 years his junior, and believes Griffith “may be the one who got away.” The Spanish star started dating Kimpel shortly after his 2015 divorce from Griffith, but the tabloid quotes a so-called “friend” of Banderas’ as saying, “The older Antonio gets, the happier he is to just stay home and watch a movie. On the other hand, Nicole is always ready at the drop of the hat to fly off on some exciting adventure.”
The actor’s “pal,” as the tabloid refers to its questionable source, goes on to say he’s “always held a torch” for Griffith and that’s becoming more clear as the two “are approaching their golden years.” The supposed tipster adds, “Those close to him believe the exes could end up spending their senior years together.” But Gossip Cop checked with a source close to Banderas, who wasn’t able to speak on the record, but assures us nothing about the outlet’s story is accurate.
A quick scan of the couple’s social media accounts show they’re very much in love, including a post last month from Banderas, who posted a photo of the couple that read in Spanish, “romantic night with my love after an intense day rehearsing.” It’s fairly clear he’s not “second-guessing” his relationship.
It’s worth noting, Gossip Cop busted OK! in 2016 when it ran a false story about Griffith being the one who wanted Banderas back. The ex-spouses, who share a 22-year-old daughter, are on good terms but neither is trying to rekindle a romance. Griffith was not pining for Banderas back then, just as he’s not holding a torch for her today.
Gossip Cop has also called out OK!‘s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for publishing incorrect reports about the ex-spouses. Even before their divorce was finalized, the magazine made up a story about Banderas and Griffith getting back together. That piece, citing a so-called “source,” said, “They decided to stay together after attending their daughter Stella’s high school graduation.” That clearly didn’t happen. Banderas started dating Kimpel shortly after we debunked the premise. This latest article alleging the actor is preparing to leave his girlfriend for his ex-wife is more nonsense.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
