Anne Hathaway is not pregnant with her second baby, despite a false report. The actress herself predicted last month that pregnancy rumors would emerge. Gossip Cop can explain what's going on.
The latest issue of Star says Hathaway was "hiding some very happy news" under her dress at the Ocean's 8 premiere earlier this month. The magazine then quotes an anonymous "source" who "suspects" the actress might be pregnant. "Anne and [husband] Adam [Shulman] have been talking about having another child for a while now," says the alleged insider. The suspicious tipster adds, "Anne kept her first pregnancy a secret for as long as she possibly could," before speculating she's using the same technique again.
This false report, however, seems to have emerged simply because the actress wore a billowy dress to her movie premiere. In April, Hathaway posted an Instagram video of herself working out in the gym, along with the caption, "I am gaining weight for a movie role and it is going well. To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, it's not me, it's you. Peace xx."
In an interview with Glamour last month, Hathaway explained that she posted the video because she "didn't feel like dealing with the pregnancy rumors." The actress added, "I find it bizarre that there's a storm to get ahead of, but I have a history of being shamed and humiliated, for a lot of different reasons." In spite of this, Star still decided to wrongly report that the actress is expecting another child. It's already unfortunate that Hathaway had to take preemptive measures to prevent pregnancy rumors, but the fact that the tabloid had no regard for her words makes it even worse.
Although Hathaway herself has made it clear she's not pregnant, Gossip Cop still reached out the actress's spokesperson, who tells us on the record, "Anne already explained why she would be gaining some weight for her role - shame on them!" Hathaway put on a few pounds for her role in the action-drama The Last Thing He Wanted, which is currently shooting in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The actress's busy schedule is just further proof she isn't planning to expand her family at the moment.
Conclusion: Star published an article about Hathaway being pregnant less than a month after the actress warned such rumors would be coming. In reality, the actress clearly stated she was putting on weight for a film role. The tabloid's story earns a big fat zero on our fact-fiction meter. Next time, perhaps the outlet should consider what Hathaway herself has to say, as opposed to speculation from an alleged "insider."
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
