Do Angelina Jolie and Sean Penn have something more “than just a friendship”? That was the made-up premise of a story from exactly one year ago. At the time, Gossip Cop exposed the fabricated claim, and it’s clear 12 months later it’s still a lie.
On March 4, 2018, the serial fibbers at HollywoodLife concocted a tall tale about how Jolie was “taking things slow” with Penn. The frequently discredited site, which is often referred to as HollywoodLies, maintained the actress and Penn had been talking “a lot,” and it appeared it was becoming “something other than just a friendship.” To pretend its story was credible, the blog alleged it had a “source close to Angelina,” who asserted Penn was perfectly content not rushing their relationship. He was “happy to bide his time, flirting and ingratiating himself” to her, added the supposed insider.
The so-called Jolie “source” further contended that when Penn focuses on someone, he’s “pretty dogged in pursuing it until he achieves his aims” and he’s “not ready to give up.” First off, an impeccable Jolie confidante, who wasn’t authorize to publicly comment on behalf the actress, assured Gossip Cop last year the entire article was untrue. Significantly, as we pointed out a year ago, the blog was so sloppy when it manufactured its story that it seemingly forgot, after claiming its information came from a “source close to Angelina,” that all of its phony quotations were from Penn’s perspective and expressed his inner thoughts.
It bears mentioning how for the past two years when Jolie was wrongly linked romantically to different men, insiders in her camp have repeatedly told Gossip Cop she’s not dating, and is focused on her children. And sure enough, month after month goes by, and the Oscar-winning actress has not been legitimately linked to anyone.
A full 365 days have passed since the original report, and it’s clear Jolie was not flirting with or speaking “a lot” to Penn. It was simply made up by HollywoodLies, and not very well at that. But that blog, as stated above, has a reputation for manufacturing phony claims about her.
In addition to the bogus tale about her and Sean Penn, Gossip Cop busted HollywoodLies when it falsely alleged Jolie had dated Jared Leto. We also exposed the site for its series of wholly fictitious stories about Jolie having a “secret romance” with a mystery man. It was apparently so secret, not even the actress knew about it.
Also, if the habitually disproven outlet truly had a “source close” to the actress, it wouldn’t have slapped together its facts-deprived article about Jolie having a “meltdown” over Pitt supposedly dating Neri Oxman. It would have actually known, as Gossip Cop and many others reported, that he and the MIT professor were never involved. And the same could be said for its piece about Jolie’s reaction to Pitt “dating” Ella Purnell, who he actually never met in person, a point the young actress herself even made on Twitter.
Lastly, just a month ago, Gossip Cop nailed HollywoodLies after it crafted an absurd piece about how Jolie “misses” Pitt and was disappointed their marriage is ending. Somehow or another, the site is the only one out there that’s missed how contentious their divorce and custody dealings have become.
As Gossip Cop has previously noted, we occasionally look back at an article from exactly one year before to see how it holds up over time, as well as to allow visitors to get a sense of which outlets are and aren’t reliable. Over time, HollywoodLife has shown it’s not entirely trustworthy with its tales about the actress. Its piece about Jolie having something more “than just a friendship” with Penn was untrue a year ago, and it remains false to this day.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
