Angelina Jolie is not quitting Hollywood to embark on a full-time career in politics, despite a made-up report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this claim. We're told it's completely false.
The tabloid New Idea says that Jolie is ready to retire from acting and instead work as a special adviser in the British government. The unreliable magazine further claims that the actress plans to permanently relocate to London with her six children, and is eying a property just minutes away from the Houses of Parliament.
According to the outlet, Jolie's alleged decision to leave Hollywood partially stems from "the fallout of her nasty divorce from Brad Pitt." The actress is also said to be fed up with the film industry because her Cambodian genocide drama, First They Killed My Father, failed to score an Oscar nomination.
But Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Jolie, who wasn't at liberty to comment on the record but dismissed the tabloid's claim that the actress is quitting Hollywood to become a politician. We're told the magazine's account of events is simply "not true." In fact, Jolie confirmed that she'll soon return to acting with a sequel to the 2014 Disney movie Maleficent, which tells the Sleeping Beauty villain's origin story.
Filming for Maleficent 2 is expected to begin this spring, making it impossible for her to pursue something in politics at this time. Additionally, since Jolie and Pitt are still working on a divorce settlement and custody agreement, she has no authority to unilaterally decide to move their kids to another country. Though trips are permitted, their home base will remain California for the foreseeable future.
Of course, Jolie is well known for her dedication towards humanitarian efforts, serving as the goodwill ambassador and special envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Her passion in the field may be one of the reasons New Idea decided to falsely claim that the actress is switching careers. However, Jolie has managed to successfully balance her Hollywood career and social activism for several years. The actress has no need to leave show business in order to stay politically involved.
Unfortunately, we're not surprised by the magazine's bogus story. Gossip Cop recently busted the tabloid for spreading false rumors about Jolie dating Cambodian rapper and filmmaker PraCh Ly. Shortly after that nonsense, we called out the publication for making up a story about the actress battling with Jennifer Aniston for the affection of Netflix executive Ted Sarandos.
New Idea has proven to know very little about Jolie's personal and professional life. This latest article about the actress's nonexistent political career is yet another example.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
