Angelina Jolie is not introducing her supposed “new man,” despite a claim. This false report is based on already debunked allegations about the Oscar winner dating and having a new boyfriend. Gossip Cop can again set the record straight.
On its website, New Idea is featuring the headline, “Angelina Jolie: Meet my new man.” Jolie never actually said that, and there is no “new man” she plans to show off to the world. But the Australian tabloid nevertheless declares that more than a year after she split from Brad Pitt, Jolie has “finally found love again… with a Cambodian rapper!” Contends the gossip magazine, “Ange’s new man, rapper and filmmaker praCh ly, has been making secret visits to her Hollywood home, where he has bonded with the 42 year old’s son, Maddox and is even teaching the family about Buddism.”
Unsurprisingly, the Aussie publication didn’t do any independent reporting or fact-checking on this topic. Rather, the entire story is based off a report from the National Enquirer, which claims in its current issue that Jolie is dating the Cambodian rapper. Gossip Cop debunked the phony relationship allegations within hours of them coming out. But rather than sharing the truth, New Idea has chosen to spread the misinformation.
It quotes a purported “insider” from the U.S. tabloid as asserting, “Angelina and praCh have a special bond. They’re perfect for each other.” Additional quotes from the original story are regurgitated, such as, “If you look at them together, Angie is clearly smitten. She hasn’t looked this happy in a long time — or since the break up with Brad more than a year ago.”
But while Jolie and Ly have been pictured together, their relationship is mainly a professional one, as they met through the actress’ First They Killed My Father collaborator, Loung Ung. It’s simply because they happen to know each other that the National Enquirer concocted a romance storyline. And now New Idea has fallen for it, even though the narrative was already corrected. But don’t just take it from Gossip Cop. Following our debunking last Wednesday, People on Thursday also confirmed Jolie is single, not dating and not involved with Ly.
This is hardly the first time New idea has relied on an untrustworthy tabloid and then sensationalized untrue claims. In November, for example, the outlet blared online, “Ange reveals: Why I really left Brad.” But just like Jolie never said “meet my new man,” she never uttered “why I really left Brad.” And all of the illegitimate assertions came from the Globe, a disreputable sister publication of the National Enquirer. We humbly recommend New Idea start following Gossip Cop rather than fellow tabloids that lie.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
