Angelina Jolie has a "hot new love," according to a wrong tabloid cover story. The report contends she's in a serious relationship with Ed Skrein, her co-star in Maleficent 2. Gossip Cop can bust it.
According to Woman's Day New Zealand, Jolie is "finally smiling again and it's all thanks to hunky British actor Ed Skrein." The magazine alleges the colleagues have "fallen for each other on set in London." A so-called "insider" is quoted as saying, "She's head over heels... The spark was unmistakable and things have moved very fast."
Jolie and Skrein are described as "inseparable," and it's said she's "even introduced her new beau to her children." Alleges the untraceable source, "Ed's got a great sense of humor and makes Angelina laugh, as well as the kids, who are on set a lot." It's even claimed Skrein is bonding with Jolie's son Maddox over a shared love of music. And Jolie has supposedly been "enjoying sleepovers at Ed's London flat."
The outlet goes on to assert that "despite trying to keep their romance secret," Jolie and Skrein are "serious about planning for a future together, with the actor considering a move to Los Angeles after Maleficent 2 wraps." Maintains the purported tipster, "They know it's early days, but the reality is, neither of them can bear the idea of being apart."
And yet, as opposed to being "inseparable," they've been apart quite a lot during Jolie's time in London. Skrein wasn't with Jolie when she took her kids to see Wicked a few weeks ago. Nor was he with Jolie when she went to St. Paul's Cathedral last month for a military memorial ceremony. He also didn't join Jolie on her June humanitarian trip to Mosul, which she took during a weekend break from filming.
On top of the publication's claims being unsubstantiated, and even easily contradicted, there are some blatant falsehoods in this article when Jolie's split from Brad Pitt is discussed. It's asserted that a "judge ordered he could finally see his children without supervision," when in actuality, the latest custody ruling says a therapist must be present with the children during their visitation with Pitt. And while the tabloid declares "the bitter custody dispute is finally resolved," that isn't true either. This custody agreement is just for the summer, with Jolie and Pitt due back in court in August.
A permanent arrangement still needs to be worked out, and it would do Jolie no favors if her focus is on "sleepovers" with Skrein. That being said, the only remotely truthful aspect of this narrative is that Jolie's kids have been on the Maleficent 2 set, so it is likely they've met and spent time with the actor. Of course, that doesn't mean he's in a serious romance with Jolie, or dating her at all.
Gossip Cop suspects this relationship narrative was manufactured just to piggy back off of equally fabricated tabloid stories falsely linking the pair romantically. It started in early May with Star claiming Jolie wanted to use Skrein to make Pitt jealous, and then other publications followed suit by suggesting a new couple was blossoming. Gossip Cop subsequently reported that Jolie was "amused" by the dating rumors, but focused on her work and kids. That's still the case today.
It should also be noted that Woman's Day has proven in the past to be totally unreliable when it comes to reporting on the Oscar winner. Back in January, Gossip Cop busted the magazine when it made-up a story about Jolie being set up with Tom Hiddleston. We also called out an April cover story about Jolie and Pitt reaching a "truce." That tale was based on a "well-placed source," while this new one is attributed to a "well-placed insider." It should be clear, though, that the outlet doesn't really have either.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
