Angelina Jolie never married a "wealthy Brit," despite a report from a year ago that insisted the Oscar winner was set to walk down the aisle for the fourth time. Gossip Cop debunked the untrue cover story when it was published on April 12, 2017. Now 12 months have gone by, and it's clear our reporting was correct.
Exactly one year ago, In Touch announced on its cover, "Angelina Shocker: Getting Married Already." A so-called "family friend" was quoted in the accompanying article as saying, "Angelina's getting married." The purported groom was described as a "wealthy, 40-something Brit" who was a "philanthropist business man." Tellingly, in addition to not offering a name, the gossip magazine also didn't have details on how Jolie and her supposed husband-to-be met.
Making it all the more suspicious was that while simultaneously claiming the actress was ready to tie the knot, the outlet acknowledged that her six children hadn't even "met her new man" yet. The alleged romance was supposedly "shielded" from the public, as well as from Jolie's own kids, "by her closest friends." As for estranged spouse Brad Pitt, the article maintained he was both "knocked for a loop" and not "surprised" when his ex told him she was "moving on."
The publication claimed Jolie was "trying to speed up" their divorce so she could "tie the knot as quickly as possible," with the specious source asserting a "quickie wedding would be the ultimate payback." But at the time, Gossip Cop learned that far from already getting married again, the star wasn't even in a relationship with a "wealthy Brit" or anyone else. One confidante even told us on the condition of anonymity, "It's beyond ridiculous."
365 days later, it is unequivocally clear just how wrong the tabloid was. Jolie has not gotten married. She and Pitt haven't even finalized their divorce yet. In February, The Blast reported Jolie and Pitt were still working on a settlement. More recently, on Thursday in a story about Pitt potentially moving on with a woman like Neri Oxman, People specifically noted that he and Jolie are "still negotiating the terms of their divorce and custody of their six children."
Of course, with the two still legally wed, Jolie couldn't marry someone else even if she wanted. What's more, though, is that the credible magazine reported just two weeks ago that Jolie is "not seeing anyone," and hasn't dated since she and Pitt separated in 2016. No reputable publication ever corroborated the tabloid's claims about her being involved with a British philanthropist because she never was.
And while there's plenty of evidence that Jolie never married a "wealthy Brit," In Touch still has no evidence that such a guy even really existed. Fans should remember this the next time the outlet tries peddling another cover story about the star.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
