A tabloid report published exactly one year ago claimed Angelina Jolie was dating Johnny Depp to get revenge on Brad Pitt. The story hasn't held up well. As time has shown, the actress was never in a relationship with Depp.
On September 6, 2017, Gossip Cop busted Star for falsely claiming that Jolie was in a "revenge romance" with Depp to get "payback on her ex." The magazine contended that the two grew close on the set of 2010's The Tourist, but they finally hooked up last year following her breakup with Pitt and his divorce from Amber Heard. At the time the story was published, a source close to Depp told us it was "completely false." It's now 12 months later, and it's clear our trusted insider was correct.
Obviously, Jolie and Depp haven't been spotted together over the past year. In fact, the two haven't been spotted together since the red carpet premiere of their movie back in 2010. It doesn't appear the two have been in much contact since co-starring in a film together nearly a decade ago.
Meanwhile, People reported in March of this year that Jolie is "absolutely not seeing anyone" since her split. The reliable publication added, "She will focus only on their children and being with them. She has no interest in dating at all." E! News published a similar report confirming that Jolie was "not dating" anyone in the wake of her breakup.
It should be noted, less than two weeks after Star claimed the actress was dating Depp last September, the magazine made up a story about Jolie trying to win back Pitt. That article failed to explain how the actress went from wanting to get "revenge" on Pitt with another man to wanting to reconcile with him in less than two weeks. In fact, the story made no mention of Depp at all. If Jolie had truly been in a romance with the actor, the tabloid wouldn't have changed narratives so quickly.
It's also worth mentioning, the tabloids have a habit of arbitrarily linking the former co-stars. In June, Gossip Cop debunked a bogus Woman's Day article about Jolie offering to help Depp get healthy. One month prior, NW made up a similarly false story about Jolie coming to Depp's "rescue" by inviting him to stay at her home in London while she films Maleficent 2. In reality, Depp spent the summer on tour with his band The Hollywood Vampires, and he's never been seen with Jolie.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
